America today faces a mounting prison crisis. The federal, state, and local institutions that seek to bring about rehabilitation have not been successful. Why? Before a man can be truly rehabilitated, he must first be regenerated. The changed life must start from within. It must start with a new life that can only come through Jesus Christ! Team Vision Sports Ministry endeavors to reach these men with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ through sports. Studies show that 80% of all prisoners refuse to attend a conventional religious program such as a chapel service or Bible study. However, they will gladly attend a sporting event at which the gospel is shared. Team Vision athletes minister seasonally through softball in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. Since 2004, Team Vision has played more than 200 games in over 18 different prisons in 4 states and two countries. The idea for Team Vision came in 2004 when Johnny Adams was asked to play “Prison Ball” in Atmore, AL by Ron Hock (National Direction of Christians In Actions Softball Prison Ministry). Johnny came home from that tour a different person. He surrendered his life to God in the Ministry through sports. His first prison tour was Parchman, MS. Team Vision played 7 games that day and saw 44 men give their lives to God. Every year since, Team Vision Sports Ministry has grown. Mission Statement: Too present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to prisoners through softball. Vision Statement: Too spread the Gospel through the use of sports. As a group, to grow in God’s Word, thus changing our lives, our families, our church, our community, and the world.
There are a couple of teams I am trying to get in touch with. Hope someone can help.
1) The old NC braves team. I think Sam is playing with them. We played against them in the MS Phantoms tourney in Amory.
2) The Young Guns team from the Olive Branch area.
3) Hot Heads
UPDATE:
I know this tourney is 3 weeks away but wanted to update the staus of the entrants. We have 11 comitted and 6 getting back with their teams. We are cutting off at 20 teams.

For those who have never been to this complex, it is very nice. It actually has airconditioned bathrooms. They just put netting up around the center of the complex to keep the balls from hitting people watching the game. Grass infields that are awesome. I remember last time I was there one of the fields had a lot of sand and didn't play well. They actually dug that infield out and replaced it. Now, they are building a men's complex right beside it that will mostlikely be as nice as this one.
We still have openings.

Black Sheep is a team from the Falkner/Ripley area, Shade tree is a group of good guys from around Falkner I believe and Flat City is a new team that was thrown together this year from around Hickory Flat, they are pretty good. All three of these teams were in that big tourney we were in at falkner.

The tourney is 5 hr and an out. That will hold through all pool play/round robin.
Once we get to the single elimination game, if both teams want to change it, I will not have a problem because it will not affect any other team. If you win, you advance. If you loose, you go home. But both teams have to agree. There will not be any changes in the tourney that will affect other teams.
If both teams want to change the home run limit in the pool play/round robin, it will not be allowed. That has an affect on the ranking.
Any questions, please call.

Lockdown is a D team. That's just stupid to say that a team doesn't need to bring D and C players. Man up and play someone. Where did this tournament say that it was E class teams only?

The people talking obviously haven't seen us play! Alabama just started E this year so we play D. It is our first year together, we are young guys and dont have anyone on our team who has ever played C! We actually had to pick up 4 guys to make 10 and I know 3 of them haven't played this year! We are just trying to have fun because we have been playing in state tournaments all last months so we are burned out. Good luck to all the teams and maybe we can raise alot of money for a good ministry.

tourney
July 31 2008, 12:54 PM
There is a 5 hr limit due to the short fields. It has nothing to do with E class --- C class...
I have not let any upper teams in. LockDown could win the tourney but so could we, or MS Electric, or Halls, or.... And besides, they are a great group of guys. If I thought they would walk through this tourney, I would not have let them in. Hope I didn't insult LockDown or any of the teams in the tourney. There are a number of teams who have a shot at winning the upper. And besides, were giving away 2 bats. One for upper and one for lower.
And yes, LockDown is/was D class but that is because last year D was the lowest class in AL. I believe that is right. I am sure someone will correct me if I'm not.
But, I will be taking teams till tonight. This has turned out to be a great tourney. I hope that if you haven't gotten in a tourney, you would consider this one. Even if you had gotten in, then later dropped, just call. We would love to have you.

We have 13 teams. I have spoken to all coaches and will let them know there game times tonight. We still have room for more teams. It looks like the tourney will start either at 8:30 or 9:00 Saturday morning. We will be using the 3 biggest fields. If 3 more teams get in, we will use the 4th field. I will not be able to add teams after the first game times have been given.
Anyone know what Proverbs 27:17 says? You will see it this weekend in Pontotoc.
Thanks to all teams.

There are no pools in this tourney. I hope I do a good job of explaining this. With the help of other coaches and players, I had all teams ranked. With that ranking, each team was applied points. Rank 1 go 1 point, Rank 13 got 13 points. So, each game that is played has points contributed to it due to each team having points per the ranking. After each team plays 4 games, we tried to have each team will as equal as possible scores. Now, the rest I will have to explain in person. But maybe that will help.
I will have a full listing of the tourney at the concession stand. I just don't have the time to type it out here. I tried copy/paste but the format in excel didn't work here.
Our goal was for this tourney to be as equal as possible, but we can only get close, not perfect.
But, there will be 7 in the upper and 6 in the lower at the end. Eventhough we didn't get 20 teams we made a committment with the prizes and the prizes still are bats, shirts, and trophies. $1200 in prizes with on 13 teams. And ASA umps.
See you guys in the morning.
