I love going to a Green Wave football game and joining in with some of the greatest fans around in cheering for our team. We have some of the greatest fans in the area, and even across the state! You go anywhere and even if people don't know this area well, they know Clintwood for the way they play football and the way we support our team. Not only do we support our team, we treat opponents and their fans with class. Almost without exception, we treat everybody well. I say almost, because we have developed a bad habit of not just being critical of the officials, but going overboard. I'm as bad as anybody to yell and scream and get completly ticked off when there is a bad call. One or two I understand, but I get very angry when it creates a situation where one of our players could or does get hurt. I know after a few bad calls, I stop noticing us getting any calls and just notice the bad calls.
I attended a game at the college yesterday and talked to a couple of officials and that was the comment they relayed to me. We are developing a bit of a reputation, not through the majority of our fans but a few bad eggs who seem to not care what is going on in the game, they are just there to try to curse the officials. Now why they said that they don't let that bother them, does anybody think that is honestly the case? I know if someone sits and cusses me, I may be able to not let it get to me but I know if I get a chance to get them back a bit, I will.
Just hope that us as fans can help get our games as something that not only the fans look forward to, but that officials enjoy being assigned to.
