Re: Prayer in school

The Republican party is not pro gay marriage. Just a minor correction there.

As a comment to your post overall, I must say people miscontrue the goals of most Democrats. It's not that Democrats are opposed to God, the Bible, or prayer. It's simply that Democrats wish to keep separate public institutions/government from religion. It's not the goal of Democrats to remove prayer from schools (well, I might add that there are some radicals that probably support that), it's the goal of Democrats to remove MANDATORY prayer from schools. No school can require or request that students pray in accordance with the principal of secularism established in the Constitution.

Now, of course, of a child wishes to have prayer before class, whether they be Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, or what have you, the school should not be able to infringe that right, and Democrats know this and support this.

Another irrational fear is that Democrats will somehow take gun rights away from people. In fact, very few Democrats support banning guns altogether. Most Democrats are moderate on the issue, but are labled anti-gun because they are anti-NRA. But what people fail to realize is that one can be anti-NRA and be a proud gun rights supporter/owner. The NRA is a group that spreads lies and opposes any type of regulation to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. I'm anti-NRA, but I'm pro gun rights.

With that said, I side with most Democrats in that, the Constitution gives us the right to own a gun. Gives us the right to protect ourselves. However, I do support regulations on the types of guns people can own. I support the assault weapons ban, mandatory trigger locks on semi automatic weapons, gun background checks, and the forfeit of gun rights if one has commited a felony, as well as other regulations.

The central core of the Democratic party does not wish to infringe the right of the people to protect themselves.
