A Random Observation on the Two Party System, Abortion, and Religion

by

I don't often post here, but I stopped by today and found it pretty interesting. I just wanted to make a little observation about the grip that the Republican and Democratic Party has on some people.

For some people, they would rather be a Democrat than a Christian. How on earth can this be? The Democratic Party has some good features, especially looking back historically. It has been the party of immigrants, of organized labor, of fair wages and a government safety net for people. But it in more modern times has engaged in an all out effort to legalize abortion on demand (this is just the worst of examples.. but there are others). Can the Christian really in good conscience believe on the one hand that God created that little life in the womb, as Scripture says, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you", and then at the same time think that there are other more important issues? If it is a child, created in the image and likeness of God, what right does society have to sanction its death? None, of course-none whatsoever.

The right to life is the first right, upon which the others are based. It is a right enshrined in Scripture, in our Declaration of Independence, and up until very recent liberal activism in the courts, it was enshrined in the laws of the land. Then federal courts come along and overturned centuries of law, issuing an opinion so inept that even liberals criticized (and continue to criticize) its reasoning. Effectively, a majority of judges on the high court was able to overturn the whole federalist design of our country, transferring such a matter from state to federal control and creating overnight a new "fundamental right."

The problem wasn't so much Democrat vs. Republican, at least at the beginning. In the beginning, even Ted Kennedy criticized the decision! The problem is liberal vs. conservative. Liberals have little respect for precedent and tradition, either in law or in the larger society. They have a vision of what America should be, and the hell with anything and everything that stands in their way.

What we see as a result of this type of activism by liberals is a weakening of the moral fiber of our country (take the push for gay marriage as another example), where the value that people assign to human life is diminished and the electorate is disillusioned, polarized, and angry because these things are imposed usually by the fiat of unelected judges. Liberals know that they cannot enact their agenda at the ballot box, so they have decided to bypass that process and impose their will upon the people. All of this is flatly contradictory to the principles of our Constitution and the clear words of our founding fathers.

So my point is that we need to forget for a moment about party loyalty and strive to take our country back. It doesn't matter if you're a Democrat or a Republican. You should know right from wrong. Democrats should fight to redeem their once great party and take it back from the liberals. Republicans should fight against the corporate greed that has often driven that party. All of us should fight for the weakest among us, including especially those who have not yet been born.

I make the argument here from Scripture in part, because I am a Christian. The same argument could be made without it, just from nature... it rips society apart to ignore the values and traditions upon which it is built. Our country cannot long survive if we continue to be ripped apart by the enactment of a liberal agenda that is at its core divisive and anti-democratic.
