Noah Biorkman Passes Peacefully
Family Receives Thousands Of Cards From Strangers

POSTED: Wednesday, November 4, 2009
UPDATED: 4:55 pm EST November 23, 2009

SOUTH LYON, Mich. -- The family of a 5-year-old South Lyon boy who had cancer is thanking the community for their support.

After a long battle with stage IV neruorblastoma cancer, Noah Biorkman passed away Monday morning at 8:02 a.m. in his home.

The boy's family issued the following statement:

"Scott and I, along with our families, would like to thank everyone for the continued support over the past few years during Noahs illness. As most of you know, Noah has received more than 1 million Christmas cards over the past few weeks. The outpouring of love and compassion has been remarkable and we are extremely grateful. We are now asking for everyone please respect our privacy during this very difficult time. The funeral services will be for family only. We are asking that instead of sending cards and flowers to Scott and me; please make a donation in Noahs name to either of the organizations below. With your donation, Noahs legacy will live on for many years to come, if not forever."

Piles of cards and gifts from around the world poured in to the family of Noah, so much so that the family has had to rent storage to contain the packages.

Noah had been fighting cancer since he was 3 years old. He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in February 2007, went into remission six months later but relapsed in September 2008.

Two weeks ago, Local 4 was there as Noah opened some of the gifts with his family.

The 5-year-old said an angel figurine ornament was his favorite because it reminded him of where he'll soon be.

"In heaven, and I'm going to be an angel," Noah said.

Donations can be sent to:

by Old Timer

Game time is listed as 1:30 PM in the newspaper.

You might want to get there very early though. Some folks are planning to be there for both games. Seats could be gone soon after the gates open. Due to construction on the hill, parking will be very limited as well.

Do crafters have to participate in the auction portion? If so, what is the percentage of sales that goes to the house?

Well Goodness sake's, This is horrible and this is the 3rd tale i have heard. Unless we hear it from someone who knows, by being around, or involved. i suggest nothing more be said until the truth comes out in say 100 years. Then who is gonna care in a 100 years anyway????

Since our News Paper doesn't cover us around here very well, and we Never make the News, not even on our Mighty Mighty Green Wave's accomplishments. We may never know the truth. It's over and the truth is out there, the police and rescue will know what tales are closer to the truth....

I have one question in this Big tale Of GOSSIP going around. Why would anyone, go to the Animal Shelter after being stabbed, to commit suicide?

Do they by any chance mean 4 paws,

just below the ole Corey Couch place? Calling 4 paws an animal shelter???????? If so Kim do i still have an appointment for the two Chihuahua's in the morning at 10:00AM?

I mean if that's what they are calling the animal shelter is there any lawful reason i should not come down in there in the morning? I.E. Evidence wise or such?

Paul Rowe is not close to our side of South of the Mountain Road. Is it???

You are so confused, I think it may be pointless to try to explain this to you, but I will give it a go.

There was a suicide on TARPON, ACROSS FROM the animal shelter. Four Paws is not an animal shelter.

Around the same time of the suicide Sunday, a call was placed to someone on South Mtn Road for a woman that claims to have been beaten and ran over.

TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT CALLS. You are trying to stir stink but combining the two stories.

Take a break from the computer, please. Find other leisure activity, maybe become more active in your husband's church, knit, sew, something other than stirring trouble online.

Re: Audrey Audrey

by ~Audrey~

I know that four paws is not an animal shelter, the way i read it was there was a beating, than a stabbing and then a car ran over a person, then the person that ran over the person committed suicide.

My understanding was that it was around the old Cora Couch residents. Just happens that Four Paws is directly below the old Granny Cora Couch Residence. I thought maybe someone was confused by the Four Paws sign and thought they sheltered pets at times.

I didn't ever hear anything about it being told it was separate incidents. It was as some say,
"all told in the same breath," so it sounded like it was around one incident leading off to another.

All being on South Mountain Road, I did ask which end, and was told around our end, near the old Cora Couch residence. It's bad enough that it happened anywhere to anyone,my concern was that it was close to our home. As it turns out, at least one incident anyway.

Thanks for your input. Nuf Said

South of the Mountain

by busy bee

I don't think the stabbing/beating/running over incident was on South of the MTN road. (I thought that was passed Camp Jacob, and the above incident occured on Rt 611). I know someone ended up taking a ride to the jail at least in this. I could be wrong, I have not really caught up with all the new road names since 911 changes. I don't know anything about a suicide. I hope that it is not true, but if it is prayers to the families of all involved in both incidents really.
Audrey maybe you should not worry so much about these things. Surely if it was just below your home you would have heard the commotion and sirens. Plus people may just make stuff up to get you worked up sometimes, but I know the incident I spoke of did happen on 611

RE: do you think God

by ~Audrey~

Well you asked me so here it is, According to our belief in the KJV [1611] and i can't quote scriptures because NO i am not a Preacher.

Keep in mind this applies to Christians, who are born again, by the water and the spirit.Your either serving one God or the other, there are only 2 choices. God or the Devil if your not serving GOD, then you are choosing and serving the DEVIL anyway.

Our belief is that if you can not get along together, then separate, but remain alone or reconcile with your spouse so long as either one of you both still live.

It don't mean one or the other of you kill each other either. If you feel your life is endangered , you have the right to separate and not dwell with the violent spouse.

The wedding vow says i promise to >>>>>>>>> Until death do us part. Stay alone or be reconciled if you can work it out.

It does not say take another spouse or certainly another person's spouse.

Your then committing Adultery twice if you do that. However if you have never dedicated your life to Christ, nor has the other person. Or the other person's spouse. All i can say is you will be in the hands of a Just God, May he have mercy on your soul.

Any Further questions find a minister to help you answer them, they can give you scripture from the Bible. God's word and God can't lie. Avoid that !!!!PRETTY LONG BLACK TRAIN" !!! PRETTY BROWN EYES, that's my advice.

Despite a close football game in October with you guys, a lot of bad things said on here from some people about Wise, J.J. The loss to Norton has been a hard one to swallow, but here's hoping you are prepared and beat the Raiders at UVa-Wise. If anyone has to represent the LPD this year in the playoffs, I want it to be you guys because you represent class. First of all it is not gossip I know first hand how they drive!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never said I wanted anyone to get hurt, but they need to be careful and watch for others. They don't own the road, and please are you saying that working 16 hour shift gives them the right to drive however they want? Because it sounds that way! They are not the only men that work 16 hour shifts? The way I feel about it is that if they are tired than they should not be on the road. So I am glad that you mentioned that the driver was not hurt, did he hit anyone? I am not going to argue over this! I just wanted to know if they were at fault? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in no way saying that! My husband pulls over and naps beside of the road while on his way home. I was simply stating that accidents happen & I don't see a reason to speak bad about the entire company. I'm sure some of their accidents are their fault. Also, a few of the higher-up men are allowed to use their trucks for personal use. But don't bash them all, just for one or two irresponsible ones.

Haysi/JI Burton

by fanoffball

JI Burton beat Haysi 42-6 today. If you were in attendance or listened to the game on the radio, could you please give a rundown of the game. Was it ever close? Turnovers? How did Martinez Miles do?

Haysi/Norton Score

by By Stander

The score does not always reflect how the game was played.
Haysi played a very hard game against Clintwood, although Clintwood Won. The
score did not reflect how good the game was. Hats Off to the Haysi Team. At
least they scored against Norton. More than Clintwood Did. Hope the boys go
up there Saturday with a much greater determination and keep their heads in the
game.

Re: Haysi/JI Burton

by Old Timer

Early in the game, it looked as though Haysi would be able to keep the game close. Norton just was too much for the Tigers. As you might expect, Martinez Miles was the big playmaker for Norton and played another very good game.

Norton's biggest problem in the game was some very costly and unncessary penalties. Other than that, they looked to be pretty solid. Norton has been rotating two quarterbacks most of the season. Their freshman QB played most of this game and probably his best game of the season.

The game against Clintwood next week should be a very good one if both teams show up and play as well as they are capable of playing. One thing is for certain though. Regardless of what you might read here or what trash-talking that might be going on in the next week, Norton's coach is preparing his team to play a very determined Clintwood team. They are not underestimating Clintwood, and Clintwood shouldn't make the mistake of underestimating them.

Looks like it's official--coal is DEAD. Thank you Obama

by Boss Hogg

So how do we in the coalfields survive, at a minimum, a 3-7 year shut out of coal extraction, transporting, processing, ancillary services and SELLING it? Where is your next payday going to come from? If you're a merchant who are you going to be selling goods and services to? No money=even less money in our local economy. As the blog writer states (see link below), I hope those of you who voted for Obama are happy.

Re: Looks like it is official....

by Daughter

What else could you expect? I hate to say " I told you so" but I told you so. I have lived through lots of presidents, from FDR until now and this is the first time I can truly say that I have a horrible fear for our nation! Let's pray for the president and the heads of our country, that they will rule in a way that we can have peace and prosperity once again. If only they and we were all to abide by the teachings of our Lord we could have a wonderful life on this earth. God made us free moral agents and will let us destroy ourselves if we so desire.

Coal Boom

by Union Man

You repubs are all alike. Our union and coal will boom again. Cecial told us at the diner before the election that our union was as strong as it ever was and it is just a matter o f time before we take over again and show these coal companies how to run their mines once again. If a coal mine is not union it serves them right to get layed off. If we get the secreate ballot to join our union we will have the coal companies at our mercey. Everybody wants good pay, good insurance, good safe place to work and not have to kill yourselves for a coal company. We would run 4 or 5 cuts of coal a day and if the bosses complained we had a slower gear that we could shift into. The workers shoud run the company and share in all its wealth.

Just say no to the union

by coal miner

There will be a demand for coal in the future. What people on both the discussion boards are trying to say is no to any sorry umwa workers in the coal industry. There are very few union mines left in Southwest Va. and we all know the reasons why. Work four hours and get payed for eight hours. They worked their sorry selves out of a job. About 90% of thoses old retired old men never worked a good days work in their lives. Go anywhere and you can pick out a sorry union worker just by listening to them grip and complain about everything in life.

Re: Just say no to the union

by UMWA DAUGHTER

I want you to know my dad was one of the men who helped form the union and he was by no means a lazy man. I would like for you to have worked in the conditions he did, a very unsafe place to work and very little pay. Look at China coal mine workers maybe you should go there and work in the conditions they work in.
