Is it true= The deer have finally run the town police beyond the corp. limit's and are now in charge of patrolling the streets especially at night. Is broken horn really in charge.
I don't know where he used to teach at but the guy had retired but kept driving a bus the paper said. He has been fired as a bus driver if you read the article.

Democrats consider it rude to gloat; and to whine like the repubs have been doing for the past year. And, they will not wish for McDonnell to lose.
P.S. McDonnell announced that Bill Bolling will be his jobs CZAR. iS THAT IRONIC , OR WHAT??
What on earth would you call all the bellyaching the dems did during Bush's two terms? If that wasn't moaning, groaning and whining I don't know what is!
They wanted the war to go bad. They even had a plan to make it look bad.
Following is the text of a memo written by a Democrat on the staff of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that suggests how to make the greatest gain off of intelligence data leading to the war against Iraq.
Transcript of a memo written by a Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee staff suggesting how to make the greatest gain off of intelligence data leading to the war against Iraq.
We have carefully reviewed our options under the rules and believe we have identified the best approach. Our plan is as follows:
1) Pull the majority along as far as we can on issues that may lead to major new disclosures regarding improper or questionable conduct by administration officials. We are having some success in that regard. For example, in addition to the president's State of the Union speech, the chairman has agreed to look at the activities of the Office of the Secretary of Defense as well as Secretary Bolton's office at the State Department. The fact that the chairman supports our investigations into these offices and co-signs our requests for information is helpful and potentially crucial. We don't know what we will find but our prospects for getting the access we seek is far greater when we have the backing of the majority. (Note: we can verbally mention some of the intriguing leads we are pursuing.)
2) Assiduously prepare Democratic "additional views" to attach to any interim or final reports the committee may release. Committee rules provide this opportunity and we intend to take full advantage of it. In that regard, we have already compiled all the public statements on Iraq made by senior administration officials. We will identify the most exaggerated claims and contrast them with the intelligence estimates that have since been declassified. Our additional views will also, among other things, castigate the majority for seeking to limit the scope of the inquiry. The Democrats will then be in a strong position to reopen the question of establishing an independent commission (i.e. the Corzine amendment).
3) Prepare to launch an independent investigation when it becomes clear we have exhausted the opportunity to usefully collaborate with the majority. We can pull the trigger on an independent investigation at any time-- but we can only do so once. The best time to do so will probably be next year either:
A) After we have already released our additional views on an interim report -- thereby providing as many as three opportunities to make our case to the public: 1) additional views on the interim report; 2) announcement of our independent investigation; and 3) additional views on the final investigation; or
B) Once we identify solid leads the majority does not want to pursue. We could attract more coverage and have greater credibility in that context than one in which we simply launch an independent investigation based on principled but vague notions regarding the "use" of intelligence.
In the meantime, even without a specifically authorized independent investigation, we continue to act independently when we encounter foot-dragging on the part of the majority. For example, the FBI Niger investigation was done solely at the request of the vice chairman; we have independently submitted written questions to DoD; and we are preparing further independent requests for information.
Summary
Intelligence issues are clearly secondary to the public's concern regarding the insurgency in Iraq. Yet, we have an important role to play in the revealing the misleading -- if not flagrantly dishonest methods and motives -- of the senior administration officials who made the case for a unilateral, preemptive war. The approach outline above seems to offer the best prospect for exposing the administration's dubious motives and methods.
if you only vote on a faith base...you dont worry about any real stance just whether or not they SAY they are against abortion and or gay marriage. why worry about the big things like the economy and the war as long as you can tell all your church buddies you voted for the jesus guy!

If you have a strongly held faith in Jesus Christ and the Holy Scriptures of God, why would you not consider that faith as a very important factor in how you vote? Surely, there are other issues other than abortion and the like, but there are few issues that we can't receive guidance, moral guidance, from our faith. If you ask me, this country would be a lot better off with such a moral anchor to guide its leaders and citizens.
There aren't any "Jesus candidates." Jesus is Lord, and so He is above all political considerations, but that doesn't mean that His teachings shouldn't influence how we vote and how we behave as citizens.
The scripture says that in Jesus we, as christians, move and have our very being. Not only should it affect how we vote, support our nation, but every way we treat our fellowman and especially those of the household of faith. I despise abortion, along with other things legal, but as a christian am obligated to abide by the laws of the land and those in athority over me, with that said I am obligated to work for rightneous sake and help correct those thing not right in society and stand for what is right as our liberty allows. God help us if the hate crimes legislation our president signs is used the wrong way enough ground has been lost in individual rights already.
Creigh Deeds was back at his old job today and a reporter asked him how he felt about losing the election. Deeds says I feel bad. The reporter then asked Deeds if he had any final words and Deeds said "Do you want fries with that?" LOL.
We don't give up easy and we will be back. We showed the coal companies back in 1989 who was the BOSS and we will fight for our fair share of all the profits. We didnot loose by much so that means that the people that support our unions are the old saying strddlling the fences. We still have Boucher on our side.
No Union jobs around here, Union leaders spent all your money on high living.
TAX PAYERS ARE PAYING FOR 13.5 Billion giving to union by Obama to keep them afloat. The National debt is in the Trillions because of people like you who want ever thing for free.
No wonder the nation is revolting,I pray It's only the beginning.
I think unions are very important in our capitalist society. I'm reminded of the passage of Scripture that says, "the worker is worthy of his wage." They have done a great deal historically to defend worker safety and pay.
That being said, I think it's so sad that today they are so aligned with liberal causes and politicians. I have no problem with unions working for greater benefits and compensation, but it's not sensible for them to then turn around and support politicians who support high taxes and expansive government bureaucracy and power, all of which ultimately harms the working man and the nation as a whole. If the unions weren't so invested with liberal causes, more Republicans would probably support them.
Unionization is certainly better than allowing corporations to exploit workers, who individually have little power. Really, I think that ideally everyone who has a skilled trade should be part of a union. It's hard for unions to make a real impact as long as union workers can be hired and replaced by non-union help. That's of course not realistic the way our country is set up, with fifty different sets of state laws. Clearly the federal government has no power to intervene to mandate such a thing.
It's a tough issue though, especially with the cheap labor outside the U.S. that is undermining America's ability to compete. We should aim at quality work with as much union labor as possible, and let the rest of the world behave unjustly toward their workers if they want. Because everyone else is doing the wrong thing doesn't mean that we should.
That's my two cents worth. I hope it's worth more than two cents, but I bet some people would say it's not even worth one!
James, that may be true and I don't have an argument with anyone being paid a fair wage for an equal amount of labor. Where I apparently depart from you is that if a worker feels as if he or she isn't being paid what they are worth then it's their responsibility to move on to another job where their wage does make them feel worthy. You can't expect McDonald's to pay their employees the wages of a brain surgeon.
Thanks for the reply. No, I don't think that a McDonalds worker can expect to be paid as a brain surgeon would be. That doesn't mean that he should have a "living wage", however. He should be paid enough, no matter what full time job he employs himself with, to support himself and his family at a minimal level. He's obviously not going to live in as nice a house and drive as nice a car as a brain surgeon, but he also shouldn't have to live in poverty while the company he is employed for makes record profits. As much as possible, he should be a part owner in the company that he works for, which gives him an incentive to increase productivity while reaping the rewards of that increased effort and initiative. He shouldn't just be the tool by which McDonalds makes a fortune. That's one of my principle objections to capitalism that is unbridled... it sees the worker as a means and not an end. Properly, economics should be seen as a MEANS to the common good of society and each of its members. Instead, we too often experience the reverse today, where people are treated as means to the common profit of the shareholders and are paid a wage that is not enough to sustain a man at a decent standard of living.
I should have said, "that doesn't mean that he shouldn't have a 'living wage.'" As I wrote it, it means exactly the opposite of what I was trying to say! Sorry!
Look at all the union manufacturing plants that have closed because the workers showed the companies who was the BOSS. The companies simply moved overseas. There is alternative energy sources besides coal. If you want to be the BOSS so bad then open up your own coal company. I wonder how you would treat your workers?????? I am a over paid non-union coal miner and I plan on keeping it that way.
If not for the (UMWA) just member non union would be working for bread crums the coal co. drop from their tables, join the union and be proud of your self.

My husband works for a non union operation. His pay is very good with excellent benefits and he doesn't have to pay union dues or worry about going on strike. He has a good work ethic and realizes that as long as the company does well so will he. He also realizes and isn't bothered at all by the fact the company earns a profit. That's why they went into business and that's why he has a job. We're doing just fine without the union thank you very much.
That post by miner's wife is one the best posts on here. Finally someone realizes that if the company does not make a profit, the company goes under. Unions suck. They are for the uneducated and lazy!
since everyone says they are such union people, would someone mind telling me where are the union mines in Dickenson, seems to me that all the good ole union people have voted everything out, now someone ans that for me, there is no more hospitalization and other good benifits that there use to be because people like Cecil Roberts has stuck the $$$$ and the union officals alsp into their pockets. suck on that for while
Ma'am, with all due respect, I think your individual case is made possible, at least in great part by the union. Your husband earns a good salary, rather than a pittance, because the Union earlier in the 20th century took the steps necessary to ensure that the pay was somewhat commensurate with the level of risk and the strenuous physical work involved in coal mining. Also, your husband's safety would likely be greatly less than it is now if it were not for unionization and the efforts of organized labor to lobby for better safety laws. Never should a coal mine or any other company place workers in such unnecessary risk simply to increase their profit margins.
It's just a fact that in capitalist societies, profit margins tend to become the most important thing for companies. Unions make the proper treatment of the worker, his safety and protection, a part of that "bottom line" by the threat of halting production.
I wish you and your husband the best, but I think it's important at least to remember the good work that the union has done to make your husband's situation possible.
MY father work over 30 years in the minds and was a union man.And he could not live now if it were not for that.Union is great. What are these men going to do when they retire. With out the union.Life on hardly nothing.
That's debatable I think. I certainly see a great deal of harm that they do. My main objection is that they tend to divide people along class lines and create an atmosphere of hostility toward employers. It would be nice if somehow employers could be more a part of them, and they could find a way to work together to help both the worker and the employer, but that may be Utopian(?)
But if the unions went away, don't you think you'd see more exploitation of workers, more dangerous workplaces, a downward pressure on pay, etc? I don't think those things would be good for the country.
If they went away business would prosper and so would good workers
by Me O My
That would be good for the country because with Obama and the Dems in charge somebody need to make some money to pay the taxes to support all the give aways.
Who would suffer.
Lazy workers.
Uneducated (No excuse for that because if you are poor you can go to college for free for ever)
I am proud that I am not a sorry, lazy umwa worker and you all did not get my job for me and the high wages that I earn is just keeping in line with the rest of the skilled workers in the USA. The sun does not raise and set on your sorry a***.
60 years ago unions served a purpose - 30 years ago unions were obsolete
by Me O My
and now they have ruined our economy in some areas. Detroit, Pittsburg...Dickenson county. 30 or 40 years ago we needed leaded gas and an annetenna rotor for your TV. You had to go the library to read the Wall Street Journal and didn't have e-mail. Things have changed and hanging to an obsolete and corrupt union system hurts workers, businesses and companies.
Look at our hopsital unions nearly ran it out of exsistance.
I have lost a business, my money and 10 years of my working life because of the UMWA struck with out a care of what it did to hurt others. I am sure there are others. I made it back to prosperity and an excellent career by making myself valuable in the workplace, not be depending on others to get it done.
Well, I don't think that means that unions are completely bad or obsolete. It means perhaps that they need to be reformed, or that the economic system within which they operate should be reformed. I still think you'd see a lot of negative effect for everyone (except many corporate bottom lines) if unions suddenly didn't exist.
I'm not pro union but I have to disagree about our hospital
by ITK
It wasn't the union that turned DCH from a good community hospital into a 24 hour a day band-aid station. It was the mean spirited and spitrful management and board of directors of Norton Community Hospital that did everything they could to bring DCH to its knees and boy did they do a bang up of a job.
You Republicans that are all giddy over this election better get over that feeling fast. This is just one election and it means nothing at this point. The victors still have to prove they are worthy of the job they won. And if you think that the Socialist Democrats are just going to throw their hands up and quit........better get that out of your head as well. The socialcrats have gotten a big taste of power and all this big government they are forcing on us and they are not going to go down easy. A lot can change from now until Novenber 2010 so stop the victory dance and just pat yourself on the back for a job well done. However there is still work to do. One election at a time until socialism is defeated and then and only then do we celebrate. Tomorrow we go back to work.
Killing our babies and letting GAYs get married and pray taken out of our nation.Thank Obama for what. Are you crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He is ending the world.Hope your happy.
went republican, people voted republican because of OBAMA. and honey Obama is not end ing the world. God is the only one who can end the world Obama is just heling fulfill the Bible. only God knows when this will happen.
The fact that you have more than likely lived your complete life in Dickenson County more than likely obscures your view of reality! The simple fact is that their was no need for that remark both Patton and Gray have done many things for the community. It is absurd to call one an extreme liberal when one has never been exposed to views other than extreme conservatism. I my self would be considered an extremest if I were to still reside in Dickenson County. However, In the location I live now I am merely a moderate at best.
My statement was too generalized. What I mean is that many of the Good Christians in Dickenson County have only been exposed to extreme conservatism and have views that are narrow and absurd. However, as one who came from the same situation I understand that a blessed (Thought I would throw that in for the religious readers who seem to like to use it.) few have overcome the barriers of ignorance set before them.
Thank you for making an excellent point! Many of republican party in this area speak the morality of themselves, as a party, and forget their basic principles by turning to insults and worse to promote their cause. Not what I call moral and not what the Good Book teaches.
Some republicans are stooping so low as to say that Jerry is a member and big supporter of the ACLU. We all know better than that, he would not stoop that low in life.
what your political preference is but Jerry did not deserve your ugly remarks. What has he done to you? Just because you don't like his political views, you say ugly things about him! Jerry was one of the best Commonwealth Attorneys Dickenson County ever had! He and his wife are kind and caring people. And I am sitting you here wondering why I get homesick for Dickenson County!
For All in Dickenson County that is For Sure!! We in my neck of the woods do not only love the Gray family but also Respect Jerry and his accomplishments ! What ever he runs for, should he so decide, I am sure anyone with a desire for someone who is not afraid to speak up for what he believe's would infact vote for him. He is not only a very intellegent person but a ....... Good Lawyer BTW! I am proud he choice our area to raise his family and to work here too. I just wish most of us had the memory and abilities that he has on a bad day, not too speak of the Good Days. Smile Jerry and Family we are very proud to know you and yours!!!!
Thanks for being YOU!
It's strange that on this board a person can post something postive regarding another individual and the poster is personally assaulted. Bottom line---Congratulations Brian!
Jerry, it's good of you to show some self-deprecating humor, despite the negative comments here. I am honestly not sure where you are on the political spectrum, but I seem to recall that you once supported Virgil Goode, a rather conservative Democrat at the time. I also recall your work on behalf of the environment, another big positive in my book. You may not want to "go there" on a public forum, but I'd be sincerely interested to know where you stand on some things.
What exactly has he done that you oppose? I am no longer a Dem., but I couldn't find any reasons to vote against him. (in this case, I couldn't find any reason NOT to vote for him, since he was unopposed).
WASHINGTON — Republicans wrested political control of Virginia from the Democrats on Tuesday as independent voters swung behind the GOP, a troubling sign for President Barack Obama and his party heading into an important midterm election year. Exit polls showed unpopular Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine locked in a close race in New Jersey, where independents were heavily favoring his Republican challenger.
Republican Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell's victory in Virginia over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds was a triumph for a GOP looking to rebuild after being booted from power in national elections in 2006 and 2008. It also was a setback for the White House in a swing state that was a crucial part of Obama's electoral landslide just a year ago. The president had personally campaigned for Deeds.
God's man voted against equal pay for women.
God's man voted against extendng unemployment payments for the unemployed.
God's man voted against accepting stimulus money; which would have gone to other States.
God's man wrote that women's place is in the home, instead of holding a job outside the home.
I doubt that God would agree with all of his beliefs: do You ??
Just how long should we keep people up after they get layed off ? I agree with the no vote on unemployment .
Once again, a good stance on the stimulus. Shows he is responsible by not wanting to take part in sinking this country with Obamas massive spending.
Ibelieve god would be against getting money for nothing, and i believe god would be against the theft of all the taxpayers money. And one more thing , how could he have voted against the stimulus and unemployment? He has been attorney general since 2006. Obamas stimulus wasnt until this year and if i am not mistaken the vote on unemployment you are refering to was this year also. hmmm, interesting. Sounds like someone doesnt know their facts.
He voted agaist the Bush stimulus .The 787 billion that went to the banks and wall street. Check it out.I never write things that I don't know as factual. Can you say the same?
How could he have voted against the Bush stimulus ( actually TARP )? That was at the end of 2008 and he was the attorney general of virginia, he doesnt vote. Once again no facts at all, you cant just make it up and hope it is true. The more you try to come up with this stuff the deeper you get yourself in.
Right now Boucher is all snug in bed with his wife who has been at his side since the day he got married. My tongue is planted firmly in my cheek in saying that.
But to get serious, here are the current numbers from the 9th district in today's voting:
92.85% of precincts reported
67.89% of voters supported McDonnell
32.03% of voters supported Deeds
If Boucher isn't worried tonight he should be. If Obama, Pelosi, Reid, a socialist congress and senate and the dozens of unelected czars don't stop the destruction of this country within the next year a good GOP candidate with the right message in the Fighting 9th can defeat Boucher.
I wish I could agree with you but good candidates have come and gone and Boucher has beaten them all rather handily. Most likely he will be in office as long as he pleases.
I agree. I think Boucher is actually vulnerable this time. The GOP needs to get a good candidate to run against him, or, what may be even better, a good conservative Democrat could oppose him for the nomination (the latter effort has a snow ball's chance in hell of succeeding).
I bet the grand umwa workers will cry themselves to sleep tonight. Thank God that those sorry workers will never work again for at least 4 more years in Virginia.
No votes are counted until the polls close so there is no way to count any of them until after the polls close. I'm sending you a complimentary bottle of Red@ss. Heck, I'll even deliver it to you personally and we can talk election law or do something else fun. Does that sound like a plan to you?
After making some observations today at a couple of voting places I'm hooked on a feeling that tonight isn't going to be very pleasant for democrats in Virginia.
When you don't see a hoard of democrats with handfuls of campaign materials at South Clintwood and Colley precincts breaking their necks to get to voters you know something is different.
