A few years ago while out walking just after daybreak, I saw a real funky-looking coyote cross the road. I now believe it was a hybrid with a large genetic component of red wolf to it. He (or she) looked very similar to the red wolves in Chester's descriptions and photos. He states that lots of coyotes today are red wolf hybrids and it shows. I can't imagine it was a purebred red wolf, but it was sure close. Hope it comes back someday and I'll see it again....but I think this was a once-in-lifetime sighting. I'm on the upper Texas coast about 45 miles southwest of Houston.
