For whatever reason, they did interbreed with coyotes and even feral dogs, and were vulnerable to debilitating diseases that destroyed them. When the last of them were gathered up, they were suffering from mange, heartworms and lung diseases, in generally very poor health. They're being bred in captivity and now Chester Moore, Jr., my little hero in Texas, has documented proof with pictures that there are still a few in East Texas that are at least almost genetically pure, or even 100 per cent pure.
