It seems some people think an IP address can somehow be used to track them down. This is not true (well, in extreme cases, it can be used, but only by law enforcement and only if you've done something REALLY BAD, like host a child pornography website or something equally as bad).
Your IP address is simply the location of your internet service provider's router to the internet. It cannot give anyone your home address, your phone number, or any other personal information. At the most, if your ISP is local enough, it can show the town where you live. This is not always accurate either, if your ISP is not located in your town or the router you access to get online is not specific to any particular town (there are other things that can throw it off as well. I sometimes see things that are targeted to my location through my IP address and they are more often than not, wrong about where I am...).
The exception to this is if you own your own ISP or you have a static IP address that is specific to your home or business. Not many people have that, yet....
