My first concern would be why AOL is involved. I have spent days getting rid of AOL software on a PC, I can only imagine what kind of damage it will do to a MAC. I would suggest to this person that they wipe their hard drive and reinstall the MAC OS, WITHOUT any AOL software. That should fix thier problem instantly.
