I am convinced Net54 is what gives my computer bugs and viruses. The first time my own message board froze my computer, I thought nothing of it. The second time, nothing still. But eventually, my **** crashed, and I was unsure of what was the cause. But after it was repaired, I visited my message board once again, and the pop-ups were setting off my firewall the entire time, and after 1 year of investigating, I'm positive it is Net54. Do something!!! Or is that what we get for a "free" site?

That is highly unlikely. Most likely, your AV software is throwing false alarms. That's what AV software does best........ Throw false alarms and let real viruses through.

Here are just a few tips to avoid viruses.

  1. Never open an e-mail from someone you don't know. Delete those.
  2. Never click on any link in an e-mail, even from people you know, unless you know the link and it is actually a link to that site (most e-mail readers will show the actual link when you mouseover the printed link. They are often not the same).
  3. Never forward an e-mail you are asked to forward, even from someone you do know. 90% of all viruses are forwarded by people with "good intentions" forwarding some stupid "forward this to 5 people and you'll get something for free" e-mail. The only thing you'll get for free is a virus, along with the 5 people you just infected as well.
  4. Avoid porno websites. Of all virus attacks and home page hijackings, these are the most likely web sites that will cause them, not Network54.

On the contrary

Thanks for the obvious advice Ripper, but like I said, I have no problems while browsing the web, and visiting other sites - UNTIL, I go to my Net54 forum, more specifically, my own board. So, I think think it is likely that Net54 is the cause. This has been happening for years, and it's not just me. All the pop-ups and Ads must be doing something. I am not the most tech-saavy guy in the room, but I know a thing or two.

However, you are right about this - my AV software probably does suck, as do all of them, which is why I have converted to Mac. Here's the link to my board, try for yourself, if you believe what you're saying is true

There must be something on your forum, or your computer, that is causing your issues. If it were more widespread than that, you would see many more people complaining about the problem. Do other users of your forum complain about this issue or are you the only one having it?

None of those are virus complaints

There are some ads that will open up on the whole page and block you from going any further for around 30 seconds. I believe once those are found out, they are removed from the ad rotation. You can report those ads to support at network54 dot com. I cannot answer why your e-mails are not being answered. I wouldn'e even begin to know what the problem is there.

You have two choices to eliminate those popups:

  1. Make your account Premier. Popups gone. Problem solved.....
  2. Tell your users to turn off active Javascript and all other add-ons for Network54. This will cause some functions not to work, but it will also stop the popups from hijacking your visitors and if they have popup-blockers, have them turn them on.
