IJA Four Color Camo question

Forgive my ignorance.
Where the colors of the early IJA camouflage scheme applied in a particular sequence?
Which of the colors was the base color that presumably covered the entire tank?
Was IJA tank camouflage applied at the factory or in the field?
Thanks

Andy
