I just ordered this from HLJ last night and I was wondering if there was any additional photos of the kit besides the finished model on the box? Looks like a little fun what if project...

Tracks

March 2 2012, 2:01 AM

Hi Scott.

I have this one, as well, but I have not started it yet.

Here a link to Taki's website on this tank:

http://www3.plala.or.jp/takihome/ho-ru.html

Only one prototype was built, and I do not know of any photos.

I am still wondering which track I shall use for the Ho-Ru, since it was not the original Type 95 track.

Cheers,

Peter

Re: Tracks

Peter,

What comes in the box? I noticed it had wider tracks then the Standard Type 95...I don't think I'm going to worry about it too much when I start it.

thanks!

Scott

Yellow Cat Ho-Ru conversion

March 2 2012, 3:13 PM

The box contains:

- rather detailed instructions which also show which part of the Fine Molds Type 95 hull you need to cut away
- a rather complete and detailed interior (fighting compartment) which is composed of most of the ca. 35 parts. Beautiful interior, I must say. Not just the gun parts, but also transmission housing, driver's seat, steering levers, ammo storage etc. Good detail on the floor and the side wall / superstructure interior. I wish others would give us interiors for Japanese tanks like this one.
- two outside covers for the sprocket wheels

It's a beautiful conversion, but I think I will look for different wider tracks than the Type 95 ones. According to Taki (on a different discussion group) one could try e.g. Hetzer tracks which should be about the right width. I have a Pz.Kpfw.38(t) somewhere in the stash which I will never build (no interest in German AFVs anymore), it has single link tracks and I think I will try those.

I agree one does not need to worry about track width since there never was a production model, but I like the look with wider tracks.

No need to hurry for me, anyway, first I will finish two other Yellow Cat kits, the Vickers Crossley armored car and the Chi-Ha conversion with the 12cm AA gun.

I love the quality of Yellow Cat kits, this last couple of years. Heard bad things about fit etc. before, but now they are great!

Cheers,
Peter
