Balance Swing & Coil Testing...Hmmmmm

Evening fellow Timexicans...

I'd really appreciate some guidance on a couple of things:

Firstly, with a recently repaired 1967 Electric ebay find, now and again the balance wheel moves through almost 180 degrees and sticks. It only happens now and again. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to stop it happening - I'm thinking that perhaps I've set it up incorrectly when re-assembling as I'd guess that the ability to avoid this is something that is no doubt 'designed in'.

Also, is there a tried and tested method to confirm that the coil and contacts on an Electric balance are working as they should? I've tested continuity on a couple of balances I have and whilst continuity is there when it should be [i.e. when the 'circuit' is complete]the watch doesn't work. I realise that there could be many other causes at play but I want to be confident that I can eliminate the coil and the balance as the cause of the failure.

As ever guys, any help truly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Steve.
