Barbara I have a question

If Britney was not bipolar to start with but her manager was giving her meds to treat it, could it cause her to become bipolar? I ask because I know that if you don't have ADD but take the meds you will have the opposite effect it's intended to give. Same with anti depressants, as far as I know. Maybe I'm full of crap?

I don't think you can develop bipolar illness from taking antipsychotic meds.  However, they can cause you to develop other worrisome symptoms, such as extrapyramidal disorders (think of people with Parkinson's).  What meds was he giving her?  I have not kept up with all the details.    There are a bazillion antipsychotic medications out there, many of them misused and prescribed.  Presumably, though, it would be difficult to get actual antipsychotics for BPM without a physician - was he perhaps just giving her things like valium or xanax?

Drugs

She was given Risperdal, Seroquel, Adderal (supposedly by her manager) and taking up to 10 Correctol a day as well as the energy drinks and who knows what else.

A psychiatrist

February 7 2008, 10:48 PM

I went to in New Orleans began "experimenting" with some drugs for me b/c I was telling her that I thought the zoloft was putting weight on me.

I learned the term "stacking". She told me that adderal would help me lose weight since I don't have ADD so as you mentioned, it would have the opposite effect. Probelm- I have anxiety issues so the "speeding up" from the drug would cancel out the effect of the zoloft.

She told me to try Topomax which I think is anti-psychotic. I thought I was going crazy. I immediately stopped it. IMHO, this practice is dangerous. I had to take the bull by the horns and tell her that I was not going to be a guinea pig just b/c I wanted to lose weight. She felt I was depressed also. Well, who wasn't, it was after the thing. She was gung ho on giving me all of these drugs. I finally said no more.

A lot of these psyc docs are pill happy but with the right meds, one can be saved.

Good Lord

Those are serious medications.  And should NOT be given in concert!  Poor kid.  I guess she could have some kind of induced psychosis.
