Response to It all comes down to a complicated set of figures -

It's probably just the big outliers that really affect the POI. Within .1 or .2 grains around the average is probably OK. I really do need to start weighing though. I shot my first ever competition of any kind (25yd BR) the other day and my very first shot was WAY off. The rest of the shots went pretty much where I wanted so I can only presume that I was bitten by a misshapen or badly out of weight pellet on my VERY FIRST shot ever in a competition. Bummer!
