that time and experience shared is deserving of recognition. I have a couple of follow ups :
Pat Firemarshal :
Which theobens are you referring to, Pat ? not familiar with them all but have trusted mentors tell me the mfr worked by AZ is as good as it gets, lighter for any offhand shots and just an almost perfect gun. I wonder about its use on the line in all the positions seated etc and if there are all the accessories see for the steyr and usft knee rests butt hooks, looks like a thigh rest, etc. ?? I have this old daystate that looks a lot like the mft and is adjustable power electr. trigger and capacitor discharged for fast lock time, but it is a sporter configuration like the mfr appears to be.. I think my Daystate will be fine for hunter class FT as would the Theoben. what you say guys ?
tony : I like the idea of the gun being a consistent tool; and am actually surprised the steyr is admittedly more accurate, though I would say for the standing lanes the steyr is a feather compared to the usft I would bet. is the difference you are talking about just understood to exist ? or is it measurable accuracy difference, like enough to make the diff. between a win and a second place ? Before I was watching one of the usft guys cleaned the course of fire a couple days before.. and the steyr guy when I watched was one short of a cleaned course and it was not the hardest longest shot that cost him that one point. the ependability of the usft and consistency is a great appeal and not having to spend extra time and money for that kind of performance is really a huge plus as I am not a good and patient man.. lol
Harold : great response from a pro.. appreciated.. yes I was offered to shoot and will take them up on it next time but not at the cajuns next weekend ... lol.. too important to let the gun be touched by some rookie.. lol. I like the idea of a 32x target comp. leupold scope and just wonder how you do it at closer shots; and offhand seems a might tricky as well..quite the accomplishment I would say.. the rest makes sense to me : simplicity all quality in the adjustments that are there, purpose built scope for the target shooter. Now that you have your steyr 100 outfitted by AZ and you have the usft.. is one your go to gun for certain events or power levels or is the packable steyr getting the nod for distance travelling space optimization and the usft for other matches where that is not a consideration.. if you just shoot the steyr trained by AZ now instead of the usft, I would have to know how much the two differ in price all tricked out.. I am not going to have much more than 2500 dollars to spend at this time and am getting that by selling custom sixguns I said I would never part with, lol. May have to use the scopes I have for now. so which is your go to gun ? if you prefer to email me please do so at will..
Kevin : once again you are helping this noob-ola... thanks.. I have this sightron 8 -32 )( I thought that was a leapers) and have a hawke 8-32 both with adjustable side AO. both seem really clear. the only other scope I have for this kind of use is a leupold 6-20 target reticle scope. I might have to start with one of those on it, and the other one on my daystate..I would likely not shoot wftf at the 12 fpe limit unless I learn something more to motivate that move. I will likely shoot HFT and I am going to try to prestzel down and still rise up again like the phoenix and shoot some FT with the cajuns bunch. of the three scopes I have if I need to use one on my FT rig which would u use ? thanks..
I would be interested in some bench rest shooting as well, cause I shoot best supported and have shot with some sort of support for all my life.. and almost never shot sitting or kneeling...but off a bench or other seated with a rest option I shoot pretty well ( not the accomplishement of off the knee or off hind legs only but it is something that will be more gratifying sooner.)
Does the addition of benchrest shooting change any one's opinion...
if you have both does one sit idly by while you use the other ?
I will see if I can find AZ's site if he has ne and determine what it would cost to go steyr with his upgrades compared to the usft..
any round numbers for expected costs for this endeavor would be appreciated..
Oh : the ev 2 was mentioned in high regard, I always dismissed it though it had a good rep. as I thought it was a 12 fpe max gun... but was likely wrong.. does it come ready to compete if you just add a scope ? how does it compare fro those that have or have had both or all three ??
tony I KNOW you have all three maybe a couple of each.. I heard it through a hershey representative I cannot disclose.. and there are pictures.. lol
thanks to all.. I am selling somethings near to my heart but want a creme de la creme FT / Benchrest capable gun .. so the advice is very important.
