Fun Pistol Match Report April 21st 2012

Eight shooters enjoyed a beautiful spring day, to compete in our fun match under the roof. Locals from the Grants Pass, Wild River club, Steve Ware, Barb Rodriguez, Ron Silveira, and Chris Lovitt made the 50 mile drive down to join Mark Gravelle, Allan Heggem, Bob Pont and myself from our Ashand Air Rifle Range club.

We had mostly sunny skies and 50 to 80 degrees for the morning and all afternoon. I had added some tough targets (like 1 inch at 35 yards!), from 31 to 40 yards to our 10 to 30 yard PFT course under the dome roof in between the bench rest tables so our 42 shot course became a 58 shot course for the Unlimited class shooters, and the brave ones from the other classes who dared/chose to take a chance on the longer shots.

Kill zones ranged from 3/8 at ten yards to 1-1/2 inch at 40 yards. Considering the small KZs and switching winds, a very tough course IMHO But Im all about toughening up the Oregon team Some shooters & their equipment were tough enough.. and, had the time to shoot the course twice!.. Great endurance folks! That was a lot of shots in a short time. Chris took the day to sight in his PFT scope after some changes, and test a new rifle were working on.

Mark is on fire, shooting his custom .177 Marauder/1701. He makes the open class in every way, except his current scope! Barb Rodriguez continues to show incredible improvements in such a short time frame, easily winning Hunter class, and leaving her shooting partner Steve, and the rest of us thinking we need more practice time Go Barb!

Lots of us are searching for the perfect 12 power scope for ranging those longer shots. The Bushnell line seems to be leading the pack so far when one considers affordability, light weight, ranging and clear glass but changing scopes every week does create some issues:-)
