If i had a brain i would've stayed out of this but since i dont...
While there isn't a lot of top tier" scopes (for springers) to choose from this is really just a "red herring". Your perceived problem isn't really a problem, you've just chosen to ignore the advice given to you by others in our club. 2 State champions in our club have recommended a 4200 to you but you chose to not listen and sell yours because the "grass is greener...". Now you're frustrated because you can't find $1000 glass at a $300 price and want to change the game.
Consider these points:
-All but 3 targets on our course are typically less than 25 yards. Our range doesn't go past 43yards.
-The yardages are painted on the sidewalls every 5 yards in BIG numbers.
-The hunter guys with there 12x scopes continually place in the top positions.
These points mean you don't need a top tier scope on our course. You can look to the sidewalls and get your yardage if you like and because of the short distances involved almost any cheap 12-24x scope will RF on our course.
Equipment is a part of this game as it is with all shooting sports. Sometimes there's a new batch of good scopes to choose from other times not so much, its cyclical. We're all looking to upgrade our equipment and we all have the same retail options to to choose from so we're all in the same boat. But that's part of the fun and should be looked at as an opportunity and embraced. Every other game has its own equipment race e.g. Golf has clubs and ball advances, baseball has maple bats... Its a poor excuse to say that because you can't find a scope that suits you we need to change.
You don't need a top tier scope to play. Arguing that because you can't find glass (though the rest of the folks can and have the same exact options as you) is justification for a rule change is well nonsense imo. RF is a basic tenet of FT, it has always been a part of FT it is what makes FT. And if traditional FT doesn't do it for you there's still Hunter FT with its 12x scope requirement.
I hope i didn't ruffle your feathers too much, but you do realize that you've pretty much ignored every piece of advice i've given you and done the opposite. My home is always open if you want to go over the basics again.
