Harold, "Hip rest" is a thigh rest when sitting and a "Hip rest" when standing..

although the thigh rest doesn't really reach down to the hip for most of us.. but it does come back against the body and provide support.

I personally, can't see much difference between long butt hooks on the top and bottom of the butt, that "hangs" the rear of the gun on the shoulder... but according to the reading of the rules.. that would be fine, cause shoulder is one of the legal support places.. silly difference, IMHO:-)
