| I don't know if FULL power is really NEEDED to do well in HFT since......June 21 2012 at 5:19 PM | Ed Canoles (Login nced1) YF |
Response to LOL, I suppose that for HFT you better be shooting full power!... |
| this season I detuned my HW77 to shoot CPLs at 860fps instead of the 910ish I've used for years, and at the last DIFTA match I got "lucky" and knocked down almost 88% of the targets with the detuned setting. LOL
Anywhoo......since my duplex reticule 4-16 Elite 4200 bit the dust and Bushnell couldn't fix it due to lack of parts I ended up replacing it with a 4-12 Vortex Diamondback with the BDC reticule (a kind of ballistic dot setup) and I found that by using a 25 yard zero (instead of my usual 30 yard zero) and 860fps velocity the trajectory more closely matches the dots in my scope.
While the slower 860fps velocity does have a loopier trajectory than the 910fps I used to use, I was surprised that there really wasn't THAT much difference in the poi out to 55 yards, and the shot cycle is a bit tamer. I've never tried the 12fpe level so perhaps giving up another fpe of energy will make wind drift a lot more critical.........don't know here, just guessing! |
