The handicapping idea addresses this problem.

I think it could simplify the logistics of putting on a match such as the nationals.

With handicapping, you have only three awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall.

It would minimize "cherry picking".

Look at the Western States Match. Using the suggested handicap numbers would not change the overall winners. The best shooters are still going to win. And we would not have the issues of awards in the "lowly" classes. They would not have to combine classes. You shoot the class you want and take the handicap associated with it.

I don't have any strong feelings about it, but the idea does have some merit. Especially when lack of class participation is an issue.
