I think AAFTA should discourage MD's from recognizing match high score. The competitions should take place within the divisions.
I think it misses the mark to focus on numbers of competitors in a division. What I think matters is whether there is good healthy competition in a division to justify it.
I think with the exception of Open Piston, there as been good healthy competition the last several years in the GPs and Nats in Open, Hunter and WFTF, regardless of the number of competitors.
I would like to see AAFTA add a freestyle division (pcp and piston). Give those who want support from the ground and high power scopes a place to shoot without changing Open or Hunter which are competitive already.
I know it adds a cost for trophies for a fourth division but that can be absorbed in the registration fees. Many clubs are doing unlimited or freestyle for local matches anyway.
We might find out that freestyle dilutes Hunter and Open, but so what?
If freestyle creates a competitive division where shooters can enjoy themselves, it's an effort worth making. If shooters figure out that freestyle is the cat's meow and abandon Hunter and/or Open so that those divisions are no longer competitive, we will have our answer and there can be a merging of divisions at that point.
