Response to Excellent Keith
As a died in the wool WFTF guy, I'm proud to raid the Hunter class for good shooters. The fishing is plenty good there. Same for Open.
Field Target success is about wind shooting. You can put a 50X scope on a Hunter rig and shoot from a cement benchrest, but if you can't dope the wind you're not gonna place. Shooting in the wind is the key. There's always wind, even when it's calm. Figure it out.
Did i mention that the key to great FT shooting was wind doping? It's the Wind, stupid. Rangefinding is a distraction from developing key field craft skill competence. One can't be an incompetent rangefinder, great wind doping will trump mediocre range finding.
That was my big takeaway from shooting Paul Oswalts UKHFT course at the Heflin Nats.
Thanks for the opportunity to pontificate, Jim.
