Response to First Year Shooter with an Opinion
I'm a relative noobie to FT and shoot hunter class. I'm an old fart and don't care to drag my butt up off the ground each time we change lanes. I don't like jackets (a spinoff from smallbore?) and straps. In my limited circle of shooters, I can hold my own with any of the WFTF or OPEN shooters. However, watch out for the guy that shows up with a "cheap" gun, because he may be able to clean your clock. Most any decent air rifle is capable of winning in the right hands.
In my observation, current FT courses follow the design of the ancient European tradition where this game was originated. When this sport was conceived, those guys in the UK and elsewhere were limited to 12 fpe. Consequently, the targets are shot up to a maximum of 55 yards. Nowadays, you don't see many targets set up between 20 and 30 yards, because they are kind of gimmees. How about this old sages. What about stretching the targets out to 65 yards since we have the privilege of shooting rifles of up to 20 fpe?? How about making the kill zones smaller in the median ranges. I think what I mean is to make the Troyer number higher. So, those who complain about some of us shooting with more sophisticated equipment might see who's the better marksman. I'm still in favor or combining all these classes because I don't care if the guy next to me is in a straight jacket or naked.
