Wanna push new shooters away? Really annoy the straight jacket guys? Discourage other shooters from other clubs from visiting? Put targets out past 55 yards!
I shoot at BAGA, in Wisconsin. First match I shot, I was told the troyer was set over 50. There were many small kill zones, and targets at over 55 yards. I shot a 31out of 60 and was thrilled, thought it was the most fun I could have. Really challenged me to practice and get better. However, there was another visitor to our range that day. A guy from out east had moved into Wisconsin and came to try our course. Before the match, I was checking my 60, 65, and 70 yard numbers. He asked why I was doing that, I said, just want to be ready. He thought I was silly, just a nube!He had shot FT for some time out east and knew there were no targets past 55. Boy, was he in for a shock! After the match, he was furious!! Don't remember his score, but he did not shoot well. First problem he ranged using the bracketing system. Not sure if he was set up for concrete blocks or gamo targets. At BAGA,we use NO gamo targets or concrete blocks. We use mostly custom made targets. Then he had to deal with +55 yard targets. We didn't see him back for several years.
Next problem, Sightron makes a FT specific scope, that only ranges from 10-55 yards. Good luck ranging out to 65 yards! Also any one shooting at 12 ft pounds, the wind is sooooooo tough, requiring 5-6 inches of hold over. Boomer has been setting some of our courses, especially the aafta matches. Guess what, NOBODY cleaned the course!!! Don't remember the troyer, but it was aafta approved. Fun, challenging course!!!
