I went to the range last weekend to do some more prep work for the upcoming Dragon's Breath match and had a chance to check out the courses. Greg Garner and Kevin Allen are the guys who set out the courses that we will be shooting. I would like to say just how fun these courses look like they are going to be to shoot. Good target placement with creative use of scenery are what make the courses. If the wind is up, like it has been lately, they will be challenging to say the least! Good job guys.
The weather so far looks good and the range preparations are going according to plan, this is shaping up to be a most enjoyable match. I can hardly wait til this weekend to see everyone.
If you are on the fence about coming, jump on over it will be worth the effort.
Both courses are about a 35T rating. There is one target on the course that is a 59T, and 4 targets that are 50T. All others are from 16T to 44T. All targets are reasonable, even for Piston and Hunter classes, unless we get really heavy winds.
There will be 6 standing and 6 kneeling shots on both courses. The kneeling lane will be shot both days, but there are two separate standing lanes. I think both standing lanes came to a 28T each.
If shooting HUNTER, sticks, bipods, etc will NOT be allowed for the kneeling and standing lanes.
NOTE: All lanes will be shot LEFT to RIGHT, not near to far. Please keep this in mind as we will emphasize this at the shooter's meeting.
because using those items on a forced position lane defeats the purpose of a force position lane. Those things are ok on any lane that is not designated to be shot a certain way, where shooters have the choice of shooting position. If it says kneeling, you will be required to shoot kneeling or standing. If it says standing, you are required to shoot standing.
The purpose of the forced lanes are to add a little difficulty. Using such aids eliminates the intended difficulty.
Keep in mind, MDs typically make the kneeling and standing lanes much less difficult than other lanes. Using such hold improvements would require MDs to significantly increase the difficulty, which would then encourage more people to use such aids, and the resulting endless circle would eventually eliminate standing and kneeling shots altogether. At that point, it will truly be "benchrest in the woods."
I'm glad this all came together too bad I dont have a gun! Ken is hooking me up though.
Hope everyone brings a camera to show how nice our range is and that we can throw a really nice match. AA is really a hidden gem down here in the southeast.
