I'm new to this. I have a AZ custom knee rest that I normally use for the sitiing position. Is it legal for me to rest this custom rest directly on my knee that is closest to the target while I am in the kneeling postion? I AM NOT reffering to the thigh rest which is attached to the but end of the stock I am reffering to the forward knee rest which is attached to the stock forend and sits just below and ahead of the trigger assembly.

Appreciate the info, John

The knee rest cant be on your knee. It has to be in you hand

This was a issue discussed at the BOG match. Some people thought it was legal to place the rifle on their knee, and this is certainly not the case. Never the less there were a couple of people that shot their rifle off the knee when they shoudln't have done so.

I talked to Roz Sumpter about it, Robert Ray and a couple of long time shooter that were out competeing. All said the same that the rifle cannot touch the knee in anyway. The forearm can however be placed on the knee, and the rifle then in the shooter's hand.

It is what it is, because it is!!!

i might add...

that the hand supporting the rifle, must actually use the hand. Meaning you can't rest the gun on your wrist or forearm. The gun must be supported forward of the wrist joint.

The Million dollar question is?????

July 7 2009, 9:37 PM

If the gun(Knee rest section) is resting in the palm of your hand AND your forearm is touching the knee ------CAN THE BACK OF THE HAND WHICH IS HOLDING THE GUN(KNEEREST) ALSO TOUCH THE TOP OF KNEE???????????

Here is where the controversy begins! No where in the AAFTA rule book does it say the hand "CAN NOT" touch the knee! AND I MEAN NO WHERE!
It says the gun must be held in the hand!

Here is the rule as it apperars in the AAFTA handbook:
Shooting Position:

C. KNEELING position definition: Buttocks clear of the ground, but may rest on one foot. The bum bag or kneeling roll may be placed under the instep of the supporting foot if desired. The arm supporting the rifle may rest on the knee or leg. One knee must be touching the ground. A cloth or THIN mat is allowed for the knee on the ground. The gun is to be supported solely by the hands, shoulder, and cheek.

oh Greg what you do is range setting down while the clock ticks.. remember the ranges..

Then its just a matter of getting into position to shoot. I've seen some folks that jot down the ranges so they dont have to bother with remebering. Then they just click to that range and shoot.

It is what it is, because it is!!!
