Hi, folks. We had some good shooting at DIFTA today. Temps were in the low/mid 50's, and for what feels like the first time this year, we had some light wind to contend with. We shot a 10-lane, 60-shot course with one forced offhand lane. Our offhand division continues to thrive. This time, Al Otter joined the offhand diehards, and brought a great old AA RN10 instead of his usual USFT. Art Deuel came down for the first time since the Nats last year. Paul Wire shot his maiden FT match. Darth Penguin's humanoid, dry-weather counterpart brought more delicious, sustaining Chocolate Cheap cookies.

Congrats to top scorer me (?!?) of the WFTF division, and to other division winners Mark Martin, Rex Gori, and Jeff Deyesu. Al Otter graciously conceded 2nd in Offhand to AJ Stephens, depriving us of a dramatic shoot-off.

Great match today, and Jeff SOLIDLY thumped me in the hunter class..........

October 2 2011, 12:08 AM

by hitting 87% of the targets on a dark, cold & windy day!

Congrats Jeff for your fine score that was only one point behind the "match high score"!

P.S. You gave your GUN too much credit when I was talking to you since YOU were holdin' tha gun and pullin' tha trigger!

Thanks Ed. I never said I was a bad shot :-)

October 2 2011, 8:10 AM

but you can't deny that I got to skip the years of practice needed to produce consistent/repeatable/on target shots from anything with a "real" trigger or any recoil at all.

That said, I really didn't pay much attention to the wind while shooting except on that one at 45ish yards with the small KZ. Missed it twice and Al kept having me go back while we were waiting on the group in front of us and tried to coach me through the hold-off.

I certainly paid attention to the wind when I wasn't on the line though..... burrrrr, I was freezing until my lunch (consumed at 10:30) started sharing some of it's energy with me.
Note to self, if the temp gauge reads 52 when you leave for a match, wear an extra layer!

Sounds like a nice match....

What a mix of guns and shooting styles, and great scores! Kudos to AJ Stevens for shooting that Gamo, Offhand no less! I'd to know what you have in it, AJ, as I have a Gamo S1K that shoots pretty good, but I'd never do that well offhand.

AJ comes from a long line of offhand shooters...

October 2 2011, 4:59 PM

well, one generation, anyway.

difta sure beats shootin' in my yard, but on any non-difta saturdays, just email me for directions (fauquier county, va). 7 FT targets, two steelplinkers, and a bunch of paper. 55 yards

AJ and andy have been here. they shoot paintballs at the same distance i shoot baseballs.

Bill....do you know if AJ's Gamo is factory or tuned?

October 2 2011, 7:09 PM

I threw my Gamo in the trash out of frustration but AJ can really "make his sing"! Hummmmm...... the "kid" beat the "ole man", bet there was a lot of razzin' goin' on with that trip home!

AJ's Gamo

October 2 2011, 8:44 PM

I shot with AJ at the match. I believe he said his rifle was the Gamo Silver Fox - but the discontinued version with the factory chromed bore. He also said he upgraded the trigger and spring.

AJ let me take a couple of shots with it. It shot very nicely !

ps: If anyone wants to throw away any break-barrels, let me know. Our scout troop could put them to good use happy.gif
