red tin, batch number 40007411. i shot groups this morning along side the blue tin 30007909. the red tin shoots to a different poi and also does not group well compared to the blue tin 3000xxxx batch. Is anyone else seeing this? this is in my pro sport.

Try the 8.4 grain, 4.52 for a comparison

July 31 2012, 7:23 PM

I shot a Pro-Sport for about 2 years before joining the Darkside. It greatly preferred the heavier 8.4 grain pellets of just about any brand over the Crosman 7.9 straight out of the box. Both sorted and weighed, they shot very close to each other in performance. Oddly, the older Chinese Green label match domes shot nearly as well out to 45 yards and then the groups would open up. Same with Crosman Pointed and Milbro Clippers. JSB Exact 8.4 gr., 4.52mm, Beeman FTT and Crosman Premier 7.9 all shot smaller groups past 45 yards.

Absolutely

Same result as you in every gun that shot the old blue label express well. The red label did not group well. I only wasted my money on 4 tins.

Larry,

Define "not as well". How much does the group open up and at what yardage?

And is the POI reliable within the red tin compared to itself?

Furthermore, what is the alternative now? What pellet will you turn to?

at 32 yds groups are twice the size.

August 1 2012, 2:37 AM

some crazy flyers as well, especially out at 50 yds. I squeeky cleaned my barrel tonight and will be shooting tomorrow morning and see how it goes. I will also experiment with weighing. sorting, washing and lubing to see if any improvement. I have not been doing that with the old blue tins.

Re: JSB Express

Larry,

I have also noted similar results as you from some JSB pellets. If I am not mistaken, the first two numbers in the series on the tin is the die number. So, your old pellets were likely die 30. I had good results from die 30 as well. However, your new pellets are likely from die 40.

I will bet if you look closely inside the skirt from the back of the pellet, the die 40 are probably deeper and end with a near pin point shape. In contrast, the die 30 will be shallower, and end with a blunt, flat spot inside the skirt.

Good luck in finding something to replace those old faithful die 30's.

Take care,

Harold

Todays session inconclusive

August 1 2012, 12:20 PM

shot 4 five shot groups with old and same with new. not able to detect a difference however i was dealing with a 1-2 mph breeze that was variable left to right and had to hold off some at 50 yards and the breeze was not steady so hold off was varied as well. poi seemed same for both. maybe the clean barrel helped.

last five shots were at a row of five 1/2" dots at 25 yds and i shot better with old than new but was more settled in since i had been shooting an hour and a half.

next i will sort, wash and lube with krytek.
