Pellet recommendations, HW-97K?

Have one inbound from the Netherlands -- the 20 ft-lb model. Any advice on pellets for hunter piston class? After going back through some match reports, I see H&N 8.6s in a few lists. Wondering also about JSBs.

Bill, I just got mine back from a tune by David Slade, I have

not even unloaded it from the truck.

Before I gave it to him, I had bought it used and it loved AA 8.4s shooting around 14 FPE.... I had it tuned down to 12FPE now. I tried a bunch of diff pellets at the 8.4 weight and it preferred the AAs over H&N, CPs, RWS, and others. The only pellet close was the JSB 8.4s...The AAs were a bit tighter in this gun.

I was not aware it came in 20 FPE...

20 fpe

is not what it is likely to put out. If the LGU is any indication they are very optimistic. Which is fine because a 20 fpe 97 or lgu would be a very unpleasant gun to shoot. My FAC LGU is doing 14.78 fpe. the 12 fpe version which I also have put out about 10.5 fpe.

H+N FTT 4.51 or 4.52 head size. Don't expect 20 ft lbs, it will be 13 or 14.

I'll order a few tins with the scope for it. Actually relieved it won't be running a full 20 ft-lbs.

Mine have all preferred 8.4's ...

They also shot H&N 8.65's well too but JSB's were best.

I understand the confusion

I bought mine from Krale as well. They list a 20-joule version, which I think converts to 16fpe. In reality, it seems to be less than that. When I shot mine over the chrony it was just under 12fpe, but it was a quick and shaky shot, so not high confidence.

Mine has been doing well with FTT 4.52, but I haven't experimented with a large variety of others.

Is a 14J from Krale that shoots about 10.5 with mid 8 pellets.

From 10-30 yards (still cant shoot on the reg past 30 much), mine shot JSB Exact and HNN FTT about the same. The JSBs go into the lede with no resistance. The 4.5 HN's were tightish and I don't think I would want to go bigger than 4.51, as they are as tight as you could want without swaging on the way in.

The "studs" that shoot HW97 round here shoot HN FTT 4.51.
