Will reporting work on Linux?

I've been able to view the reports using IIS and Apache on a Windows 2000 machine.

But since we need to use Seagate Page Server and Web Component Server, then aren't we limited to only Windows platform? Can Page Server and WCS be installed on Linux or is there another way to get reporting to work on a Linux platform?

thanks

Well, you have not mentioned the version of Crystal Reports that you intend to use.

I myself am not sure about that;but I did try to find it out from Crystal Decisions's Official Website and, this piece of information might be useful for you.

Re: re: Will reporting work on Linux

September 20 2002, 2:38 PM

I'm intending to use CR 8.0 but i've also got CR 8.5 and CE 8.0. I want to install the minimum components so CR 8.0 is a better solution right now.

the major factor in getting reporting to work on Linux is the server components (WCS and Page Server). I think these two have to be on a Windows platform.

two questions then:
1) crystal decisions info states that the web connector is supported on linux, what is the web connector?
2) is there anyway of installing the Web Component Server and Page server on a windows machine and the webservers (Apache, Tomcat) on a linux machine and having Apache forward the report request to the WCS on the windows machine and getting a response to display the report?

any info is appreciated
thanks

Answer 1 : Web Connector is an interface, residing on the same computer as the Web Component Server(WCS) and used by the WCS ,to talk to the different web-servers ,like Microsoft IIS,Netscape Enterprise Server,Netscape Fast Track Server,Lotus Domino,Apache and CGI compliant Servers.

Eg    : ISAPI Extension for Microsoft IIS
NSAPI for Netscape's HTTP Servers and CGI

Answer 2 : Let me try it out, before answering this question.
