This spring my youngest son is participating in an internship program with NASA (Me plumps me proud feathers a bit here, he is only 15) He will be staying in Florida for 6 weeks all expenses paid but of course he will need pocket money. Now I could give him a few hundred dollars and hope he would know how to limit himself over that 6 week period so he still has money the whole time and for his trip home. Instaed we have chosen to activate a small limited credit card and add only enough money for a week's time each week. This will help him to limit his spending. He will be paid $3,000.00 for his participation at the end of the trip and he will be reimbursing anything he spends while there, the rest goes in his brand new college fund. There is also the Visa Bux card, this is designed for parents to let their kids use but it is prepaid and it is issued in the name of the child.
I think your ex is being wise. He is protecting your daughter by keeping control of the money himself and insuring that she doesn't spend it all at once.
