Katy I had a new pup last year and I crate trained him, it was good all the way around. If the puppy is in a crate with his own blankey, he feels secure. He will cry a LOT less. Also he will not pee in the crate. Not only that but even if he couldn't hold it he wouldn't wreck your house.
I know that it might sound mean to some people to put puppy in a cage at night, but he will not think of it as a cage, it will be his bed. My pup only cried the first two nights and when he did I did not take him out, I just layed down next to the crate and stcuk my hand in so he could snuggle with my hand. At 14 weeks this puppy should pick it up very fast, my puppy was only 5 weeks old and he did great! The crate should not be in your bed room as he will hear you and whine. He needs to learn to be independant.
We have had ours a year and a half now and he only piddled in the house 4 times! Remember he is like a baby, the minute he wakes up, put him out to potty. Put him out at the same times every day, every couple hours. We did 6am, 8am,10 am, noon, etc. Since there are a lot of people in our house everyone knew that if it was a certain the dog went out and it never got overlooked. He will develop a routine and want to be outside to potty. It sounds like a lot of work but its a lot less then cleaning up your floor all the time! Also, it should only take him a few weeks to learn it. Just keep telling yourself its only for a little while. It will be 6 months before he has bladder control and 8 months for poo I think. But he will learn to want to do it outside much earlier than that.
Good luck with your puppy, he sure is a cutie!
