Draws inaccurate

The seedings are so inconsistent in the tournaments! If you compare results from the Scottish and British, you will see how inaccurate the draws are for the BJO:

Examples:
BU17 Final: Rory Byrne BEAT David Letourneau, Letourneau is seeded 9/16, while Rory has to play in prelims just to reach main draw!

BU19 Final: This one is just ridiculous, Cesar is seeded 9/16 while Arturo has to play prelims. Arturo regularly beats Cesar 3-0 easily and I doubt Cesar has ever beaten Arturo. They could have at least seeded Arturo 17/32!

There are definitely other flaws in the draws, but these are some of the prime examples.

It cant be easy to work it out in a lot of cases though as there are going to be players who are really good who dont play in many of the tournmanents and so it becomes hard to seed them

Yes and they do not even use the available ranking lists so hannah anthony ranked 5 in u15 european rankings and seeded 1 in the scottish junior open does not get a seeding in the british but her opponent today katherine quarterman ranked 19 in europe is seeded!!?

Hannah lost her first match in the scottish but she had a nosebleed I believe. She is still 5 in europe though nobody can deny that. she should have been seeded and had an easier run in the british where she again had a very hard first round.

EASY RUN!!!!!

January 5 2006, 12:11 PM

Come on now lets be honest the girl that she played was better than her and deserved to win and be in the next round. I dont know what sort of a draw you expected! At some stage you would have had to have played a 9/16 seed!!!!

Lets be realistic!

January 5 2006, 2:11 PM

a) She would have been beaten in the 1st round regardless of whether she had a nosebleed or not

b) On paper the Scottish U15 Girls draw looked to have been fixed to favour the Scottish. All the well known names were in the lower half

c)The BJO seeding HA vs KQ was obviously correct. Look at the result

d)Who has HA beaten to get her European ranking?

Joke

Hannah wasn't seeded because there was better people than her! What was the score against Katherine 3-0 i believe. European rankings cannot always be trusted like all the scottish people she has been to twice as many tournaments as everybody else. But in the end the best player or at least person on best form wins.

Katherine beat Hannah 3-0 so maybe the seedings were right?

last year at the British Katherine put out 9/16 seed Natile Coombs in round 2and was then knocked out in round 3 by the 3/4 seed. you have to take into account the quality of the English girls. We tend to think our juniors are better than they are.

Re: european rankings

I think congratulations to the tournament organisers in this age group draw. To get 14 out of the Top 16 seeds RIGHT is almost impossible and yet they did it. There are players from all over the world present and most very rarely ever play each other, so the job is virtually impossible for the selectors.

As a coach and tournament organiser I empathise with all parties. For us in the UK to help the situation I suggest the home countries get together and run FOUR tournaments per year, where the top players from each country regularly compete. At least that way we will know who are the best of British and it will help the organisers from a British perspective.

Congratulations to all the players who have competed, despite results. It's great that so many of you are allowing the sport to flourish.
