NW bu13?

January 5 2007, 7:26 PM

The boys U13 have a potentially good team

1. Matt Sidaway - England no. 2
2. Ed Fairhurst - England no. 5
3. Robbie Williamson - England mo. 31??

With the tournament in the NW you never know?

Why is there so much excitement over a tournament where the best players in the age groups are not allowed to play?

National Academy / MI5

January 15 2007, 8:29 AM

Has anyone found a listing of who is actually in the National Academy. With the freedom of information act and all that I cannot find any information on who is in the academy and how it all works in terms of sponsorship/coaching/tournament support etc.
I'm surprised it is not put on the web site somewhere so the juniors have something to aim at.

Re: National Academy / MI5

Unless you live near Manchester its not something you really want to aim for as you have to pay your own transport and Friday night accomodation. In fact it is rumoured that one participant declined to be part of the squad for this reason.

Having coaching with the current England coaches seems to improve your chances of being selected for National Squad rather than actually having the talent (it is only recently that a 3 time winner of national titles has been taken onto the squad)

There is meant to be additional coaching on top of national squads, but only if you can travel miles for an extra 30 min session. Some of the coaches are more interested in having an easy life rather than developing potential. There is not to say that there aren't some dedicated coaches.

Sponsorship?

For a list of National Squad members you could try the flight register for all those going to the French Open.

In conclusion you are probably better off have regular intense local training rather than disjointed, infrequent lessons from England coaches who probably don't actually understand the strengths & weaknesses of the player they are coaching.

I agree wholeheartedly, this should be available on the Englan squash Website.
The rankings are much more transparent now which is good, the academy information should also be transparent.

academy

January 18 2007, 5:56 PM

I think you will find that there is a core but England Squash also invite along a few others to the squads who are not actually on the academy. Also, the people on the academy change year in year out (not all but certainly some) so it's not long term commitment from England Squash anyway!

U13's

January 17 2007, 11:44 AM

U13 boys will be really close S.E are strong with Josh Masters, cameron western and Richie fallows ( Joel croucher wont get in the team if they all play !)
SW have Peter Joyce , Matt Boal and Joel Brickall
Possibly best of all could be Mid West with Luke Dalton, Alex Noakes and Brian harvey.

bring it on... !

Re: U13's

January 20 2007, 8:03 PM

for the U13's the NW and the SW are the favourites

The south east
Josh Masters
Cameron Western
Jonathon Maltz?

it's all rite but look at the SW (i think it includes GLOS?)

Wesley Howell
James Watkins
Peter Joyce

then you got Joel Brickell and Matt Boal that's pretty good

and the North West
Matt Sidaway
Edward Fairhurst

those two alone are v. goodn and the tournament i think is in the NW there 'stomping ground'

the North East,

Taminder Gata-Aura
possibely Ollie Hotchkiss but apart from that there is nobody

Middle West
James Prendeville
Brian Harvey
Luke Dalton?

Middle East
Ashley Davies
Russel Clark

East Anglia
Lalit Bose
I think the rest of there team are sheep? apart from Lalit pretty poor

Lots of those you mention are too OLD !!!
If it was Wes Howell, James Watkins and Peter Joyce they would walk it but Wes and James are now both 13 !!

So are Jonny Malz ( SE) and James Prendeville (MW)

Inter area

January 18 2007, 10:58 AM

Last year Surrey (whichever area that is)played Nick Hopcroft, Charles Sharpes and David Wardle at U15, two of which have represented England and should be disqualified from Inter Area Academy. IT IS NOT FOR THEIR LEVEL! Note England Squash its for the next level down from National, thats why you have the Area academy. Stop cheating the south and play area academy squash players not national then you can really brag if you win fairly!

well charles and david wardle didnt play in actual fact. nick hopcroft was eligible to play at the time as he wasnt on the national academy, so does that mean were allowed to brag now? now that we have won it fairly? and well, we probably will do again.

David was invited to play for the U13s last year as he wasn't on the national squad at the time, but declined the offer in order to give other up and coming stars the opportunity to compete at Manchester for the first time.
