Are England Squash going to modify the ranking system?February 1 2007 at 12:23 PM | Squashboy (no login) |

Just been looking at the boys U15 rankings. It's a complete shambles with all these U13 coming straight up into top 30. I've played and beaten most of them. Olly /James are exceptions but the rest should be outside top 20 if not top 30.
Perhaps England squash should look at allowing only a percentage of the U13 total to count at U15 level.
It means the next England squash grand Prix will be full of 13 year olds

David Wardle also deserves his place.
I wonder if the British U15 closed will be based on these rankings. Could be some upset 14 year olds not getting into the competition

I think the problem here is a real one.
Maybe the thing to do is what the esf rankings do and that is when an U13 moves up to U15 ( or U15 to U17 or whatever )then only 50% of the points gained in the younger age group count. Obviously if the U13 boy has palyed in an U!5 event and got points then 100% of these count.
Don't blame the 13 year olds !! If they get in the draw for the Closed it's not their fault. |

What I mean is, if player goes up an age group he can only carry forward half of the ranking points gained from the younger age group tournaments.
Its the way th euro rankings work. |

The thing is they already do this by giving half the amount of point for under 13 tournament to u15 |

actually you are quite right, good point.
i dont know what the solution is... maybe the older boys just need to play more tournies and get more points so the young ones coming up dont get ranked so high. |

Mouse (?!) u r right. Lets everyone stop moaning about the ranking system, its not pefect but its as good as any other system.
Its the same for everyone so i reckon anyone who is near the top deserves to be.
If a youngster has got high well done to them. If u dont think they should be so high beat them. The top 20 or so will always deserve their position.
There will always be the odd person who has not played many events who could be higher but that is their problem not the fault of the keen player who plays a lot of tournamnets. |

Your having a laugh.
I see that all the U13 (except Earles,Wardle and holland) in the top 20 have been beaten by players ranked lower than them. But since they will qualify for the next grand prix they will get triple points for not winning any matches and keep their rankings artificially high.
They should have only a percentage of there U13 results counting in U15 and play there way up the order instead of leaping in at the top and then being eligible for the high ranking tournaments keeping better players out.
