Area / National Academies

I've heard about people rufusing to go to area academy training because they had 'team' training at their local club

why not go to the area academy?

i've heard about people who have refused without a logical reason (a gd reason would be injured) to go to a NATIONAL academy! why? lots of people who don't have the chance would love just to play with the national coaches or just to be in the area academy etc...

why do these people not go? they assume they will be invited again, and if there not they will moan!

this irritates me what do you think>

Its the cost that puts me off. We pay enough for coaching/tournaments/equipment to get to a standard to be invited to the area academy and then England Squash want to charge you £25/£30 to go to a group coaching session.
Even then you cannot tell what standard you will be paired with so you might not even get a hard session from it.

It is just another way of England Squash getting funds from all juniors outside the National Squad

well, £24/30 isn't really that much - i mean i spose its kinda a waste of money if ur not gunna be paired with anyone who will give you a good workout - but if uve got th opportunity, u shud go
how do u get invited??

You have to play in ther area closed championships that occur at the start of the squash season. If you do not play in this then you will not get an invite.

To get into the national setup you have to get in to the top 20 England squash rankings. You will then get invited to an England Squash Grand Prix. If you finish in the top 4 you will probably get invited along for a training session with the national squad.

now that is what annoys me, i don't care how much it is or the standard! i would pay! i would go! if i had the chance, these people don't understand how significant the oppurtunity for being in the area academy is!

Is it that you think you will be coached by the national coaches? - sorry this is not the case! my child has been to two academies and not one national coach was there!! Been on the circuit for years and did not know any of them! - May as well just pay a local good coach (who actually has an interest in your child) the same money and get a good couple of hours work out on one to one (far more beneficial to the squash)
The down side to that is you need to be showing willing because ultamately you have to be doing the right things! - Then again you could always get your child coached by a National coach - they would be sure to be invited to squads or put on the National Academy!!!

Do you know how much Edgbaston charge for the use of courts?!!
whereas at the national squash centre there is a good set up and FREE use. Also it's national academy which means you dont pay to go so thts 4 sessions with a guaranteed decent people for the price of a train ticket!!

the area academies should have 8 boys regardless of standard but i hear of areas that only have 6, why not 8? depriving the oppurtunity to others

eight people makes a good squad
eight people raised more money
eight people is a nice easy number to organise and for training routines
