I guess it's that time of year again. All the Halloween fans are
getting ready to celebrate it with gusto!
And, there are a few Christians out there who don't think very
highly of it. They will be posting about it and about whether or
not a Christian should be involved in the festivities.
It's that time of year again!
And, as usual, right after the spooks are finished extorting
candy and other snacks from us, the Christmas decorations will
begin to show up... lights.. trees.. stars.. and even reindeer...
along with the stable and animals displays with Mary and Joseph
and of course, the 'baby Jesus'... there will be shepherds and
sheep, and THREE WISE MEN, all huddled there beneath the Star of
Bethleham, to WORSHIP Jesus.
Lots of other symbols and sights and sounds... lighted icicles
hanging from the eaves of many homes, fake snow on the windows
and lighted, flickering candles in the windows... wreaths and
santa posters attached to front doors with santa's sleigh and
reindeer perched on the house tops...Christmas Carols on the
radio and in the stores, beautiful decorations and mistletoe...
all the nostalgic reminders of Christmas' past... warm thoughts
and warm fires in the fireplace..Families getting together for
Christmas dinners.. chess nuts roasting, sleigh bells ringing...
walking in a winter wonderland!
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!! Glory to the new-born King! Happy
Birthday Jesus!
Choirs singing, preachers preaching, Christmas plays.. reminding
us all that "Jesus is the Reason for the Season".
Once again, Perry Como and Teresa Brewer will have their place in
the spotlight and many other talented individuals will echo the
sounds of Christmas...
But have you ever stopped to think about that? IF Jesus is the
reason... WHY? What is it that makes Him the 'reason'?
Whose idea is this thing we call - Christmas -??
Is Jesus excited about His having another birthday?
Is God, the Father smiling down, looking forward to another
season of Christmas revelry, like last year and the year before?
Are He and His Son looking forward to the WORSHIP of millions
upon millions as they offer up their praise?
Will this Christmas be the best ever? Will millions of sinners
finally get to hear about the Saviour, and will they take the
opportunity to ask Him for salvation?
Is Christmas a good thing, or just another man-made, $$ driven
holiday of human origin, without which the very ECONOMY of the
USA would flounder?
What about this thing we call Christmas? Is it a holy time? A
time of righteous effort and of making the Gospel available to
those who otherwise might just ignore it?
Is it the time of give... or merely the time of...GET?
Tell me, if you are going to keep it, WHY?
