Is Jeremiah 10:2-5 a reference to a Christmas tree?

This passage states, “Thus says the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”
These verses illustrate an idol made out of wood. However, idols were also made out of other materials, such as stone, marble, etc. So this is not a comprehensive description of idol-making. More specifically, it speaks of Christmas tree-making, even as it is still done today.
A reference to the signs of heaven in verse 2 is better translated today as the winter solstice. Most people are unaware of the connection between Christmas and the winter solstice, and that the origin of the holiday is pagan. They observe it because of the customs in our society. We need to be aware of what some of the customs signify. In fact, we read in verse 2 above, “learn not the way of the heathen.” God commands us not to follow that way.
Although the scripture above undoubtedly reflects the ancient practices during Jeremiah’s time, we know that the book is also prophetic. Therefore, we ought to take it as an instruction for our day and age as well.
The use of such a tree amounts to idolatry. This is a transgression of God’s law, stated in Exodus 20:4-6.
Gerard, most of the people who see us posting about these verses will tell you straight out that they are not speaking of the 'Christmas Tree'.. and that is true...[the truth has versions]
The truth is that Jer. 10:2-5 is speaking of the tree that became known as the 'Christmas Tree'... it is the same custom, done the same way, [with upgrades and modifications], electric lights and stuff... same time of the year... same thing, only 'different'... Now, they tell us, it is NOT and idol, it is NOT and ASHARAH <sp>... Now, it is all about Christ! And why not? IF He is the REASON for the season...[strange, because the 'season' existed long before Christ was born]...
No, Jer. 10:2-5 is not speaking of the Christmas Tree, it is speaking of the idol that was re-named 'the Christmas Tree'...

...The Apostle Paul did not keep sun-day.
Would we certainly not have been givenit's real/actual date???
I mean, G-d's Holyday calender is very very specific....so certainly the Gospel's would have made it clear which day was Holy and required to be celebrated if we were....to celebrate Christ birth.
But...as it is...birthday celebrations are pagan in orgin anyhow....roman I believe....
Gerard, relax! It's Christmas! Get with the program! Come on, loosen up and let the 'spirit of christmas' into you heart!
Just kidding... This world is in love with xmas... they love it and they think God and Christ ought to love it too!
What's not to love? They make it more and more beautiful every year!! More lights! More music! More charity! More more more!!!
Those who love it, will do it, no matter what!! Because 'people will do what people want to do!'.
More beautiful every year! and the message is one of 'peace on earth and good will toward men'! Yet, the message is drowned out by all the war and suffering, all the poverty and heartache that men do unto other men.
Jesus said, "Mat 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
Hows THAT for an xmas message!!
Bah! Humbug!
