Dust On Your Bible?

Gen_3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

I wonder... how many millions... and Billions... and TRILLIONS of people, have lived and died since Adam.......

And what God told Adam, applies to all those people as well... !!

Although they, weren't taken directly from the ground, as he was, they, too, have turned to dust! And, all those who are yet to be born , yet to live, and yet to die... they will also turn to dust, one day soon.

How many millions more will there be? Who knows?

I saw a sign on a Billboard the other day... it asked the question:

Is there dust on your Bible?

I thought, yeah, there probably is...considering that the very air is filled with dust all around us, and it constantly is settling on everything in sight! That's what keeps the makers of Pledge in business! happy.gif

But, then, I began to wonder... if there IS dust on my Bible...

Who was it? WHO did it use to be????

Since we all ARE DUST, and will one day return to being dust,... who could that dust on YOUR Bible have been?

Do you ever wonder?

I don't think that is what was meant by the slogan Is there dust on your Bible?
What it is saying is have you read it lately or is it just sitting on the shelf.happy.gif

there is a lot of dust on my Bible, unfortunately...

May 11 2012, 7:27 PM

I need to dust my computer, and my desk around it. =) But the Bible(s) I typically use are on this computer, and I read them quite a bit. I like being able to read passages in multiple versions, look up studies and commentaries if I want more info, see the passage in the Greek or Hebrew interlinear instantly, etc.

So...no dust from not reading the Bible...more dust from getting distracted and busy and not dusting the desk.

Dusting the 'puter

You are correct about the computer... that's where I keep my Bible and of course, it draws a lot of dust... more so than an actual book would... happy.gif

Thanks for posting and it's nice to see you here again!

Honestly

May 14 2012, 2:45 PM

That is what I need to begin to start using instead. Old habits are hard to break. Meaning I have been using my Bible, and even sometimes still copy the scriptures from it still. As well as the older concordance I have, along with the new one.

One thing, I seldom use, is a commentary. In fact, I don't even own one anymore. I know some would say I need to do so. happy.gif But do I? I am not totally against using them either. I just believe that sometimes we use those things instead of seeking God for what He wants to tell us. But that is just me guys. Same as I decided not to purchase a Dakes Bible in the beginning too. Which is nothing but a commentary of what he believes is true for the most part. Ok for a once in a while, but for a regular study Bible, no. My daughter advised me on this one. Telling me when someone does use this as their study Bible, they tend you read what Dakes believes God is saying instead of seeking Him for themselves.

And yes, I am a fruitcake to some when I say these things. But thankfully not to all either. There are other fruitcakes out there like me, believe it or not. Hearing voices, as Art and some others would say. happy.gif

Regarding commentaries

May 17 2012, 6:54 PM

If I run across a particularly difficult to understand passage, I'll read a commentary or two, sometimes look for a sermon or article online. Sometimes they are helpful, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes I don't agree with everything the author says but they make some valid points, or they bring up related scriptures that help to clarify. I think about commentaries like asking a pastor about a passage, or asking a Christian friend what they think. Some I would agree with, some I don't.

Like Many Other...

August 26 2012, 6:55 AM

Like many other topics I bring up on Phil's Place, this topic DID NOT
PROGRESS as I had intended... I appreciate the responses, but I think
those who replied, just didn't "get the point" of what I was saying,
soooo.... as it often does, the discussion, veered off on other things...

Okay, let me clarify what I was talking about...

DUST! That's what you and I are... dust! and the 'dust' that is all
around us and filling the air, settling on our furniture and on our
Bibles...
... well, that is ....dust that USED TO BE PEOPLE...
it's all around us, settling on our food, and in our drinks, and being
BREATHED IN AND OUT, again and again... every hour of every day and night!
Dust that was once a living person with hopes and dreams and
perhaps a family... a family who are now, probably, also 'dust in the
wind'....

Everything we are, and all the things WE hold dear are soooo... temporary!

I just thought the question: "IS THERE DUST ON YOUR BIBLE?", was a great
way to stop and ponder those things a little...

Sooo... think about it!!... someday, when YOU are settling on someone's
furniture, food, or, on their Bible... I wonder if anyone will think
about you and yours, maybe wonder what you looked like, who your favorite
baseball team was, where you lived... and where you died.....
hmmmm....

Oh well!.... Let's SING IT!!!

I close my eyes
Only for a moment and the moment's gone
All my dreams Pass before my eyes with curiosity
Dust in the wind All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do Crumbles to the ground,
..though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Now don't hang on
Nothin' last forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy

Dust in the wind... All we are is dust in the wind...

".the Bible contains the direction and counsel that we need. (Isaiah 48:17, 18) Read it daily, meditate on what you read, and apply it. It will keep your mind clear and focused on things that are pure and wholesome. (Philippians 4:8, 9) You will learn not only how to live and enjoy life but also how to love the Creator of life." -Gerard
