I know that Editorial Diana is no longer planning to reprint CORAZON SALVAGE. Does anyone know if they still own the publishing rights to this? What about other novels such as BODAS DE ODIO, LA MENTIRA, etc? Is there an agency or firm that controls the estate of Caridad Bravo Adams?

I just came back from Mexico and checked bookstores in Aguascalientes and Guadalajara for Caridad Bravo Adams books and found none. I would especially like La Esposa Virgen because I believe the ending is diferent from the recently completed Telenovela.

Busco libros de Caridad Bravo Adams. Hasta ahora solo he encontrado Corazon Salvaje. Por desgracia, en España no se ha publicado ninguno. ¿Alguien podria facilitarme alguna dirección en la que pueda conseguir algun titulo?

The publisher Editorial Diana in Mexico a year or two ago told us that all of the titles by CBA are out of print and they have no plans to reprint them.
You may try emailing the publisher again, to see if that has changed. After all, two more recent telenovelas (starring the same galan, tho not one of our favorites) were made based on the books by this prolific writer, who penned more than 40 titles. Although with the drastic changes they made to AMF, the makers of the later may prefer than no one read the more serious--and we feel, superior--original books!
Also a company in Argentina (www.tematika.com, if we remember the correct spelling) still may be selling the edition of CORAZON SALVAJE in 3 volumes with cover photos of Eduardo Palomo, Edith Gonzales, Ana Colchero, & Ariel Lopez Padilla. The CS book forum at www.telenovelas-internet.com may have more information.
EL AMOR NUNCA MUERE was a version of the same story, apparently starring CRISTINA BACH & FRANK MORO (who looks like lounge singer Wayne Newton in that tuxedo & mustache...) who are featured on cover photo of book which is exactly the same as LM (including the exact same print typographical errors!)
ESTAFA DEL AMOR is apparently one of the books telenovela LABERINTOS DE PASION was based on (and also perhaps combined with FLOR SALVAJE by the same author). One library listing for ESTAFA gives alternate title as EL ENGANO, but we have not yet seen a copy that lists that title in or on the book itself. Maybe we can track one down this fall...
Actually, one of the telenovelas titled EL ENGANO (see index at site listed above) sounds like book LA INTRUSA by CBA (which is reportly different than the new Gaby Spanic novela with same name. We may watch that to double check).
But we aren't sure what book by this author refered to namelessly in credits of the recent ALMA REBELDE was based on, since that story is very different from book also titled PATRICIA. Starring EDUARDO VERASTIGI as the engineer and CARITA DE ANGELS former nun as the strong minded rich girl who is mistreated by him on their honeymoon due to a misunderstanding, it seems to start as a horrible remake of LM--and it even includes a real evil twin for the hero! Even KARLA ALVAREZ as mala RITA & "Nicole" (who gets pregnant by her the first man she falls in love with--who is much less a gentleman than our Deme) couldn't make us watch till the end. Truly, casting inexperienced youth & "beauty" as protagonists is no substitute for acting talent & good writing.
If you do find any copies of these books, please treat them carefully. The poor quality of the paper and ink used to print even the 1970's editions of these books was not intended to last long (think how quickly a newspaper gets brown with age & crumbles), so even turning a page can cause it to tear.
We hope that these books will survive for more generations of readers, so that through her well-loved works, our favorite writer of Spanish romances will continue to live!
P.S. As we mentioned before, please remember to return your library books on time. Some titles we want to read MIGHT be recorded in catalogs as
"missing" simply because they fell apart from old age... but it's possible that someone decided they didn't want to share, or give anyone else the chance to enjoy them too... if you really NEED a copy, there's a 5 letter magic word that starts and begins with an X ("another" way to spell it is kinkos.com...)

I thought the one starring Christian Back (Humberto Zurita's wife) and Frank Moro (actor originally from P.R., moved on to Televisa, just like our current Osvaldo Rios... by the way, loved the Wayne Newton resemblance note... lol!!), was called 'Bodas de Odio' and was the remake that Edith Gonzalez and Guy Ecker were supposed to do together last year. Now they are doing Salome (new version of Colorina) instead.

First of all, I wish to thank you for your effort in typing--word by word--all of the content in El Engaño: Estafa de Amor, by Caridad Bravo Adams. Also, I believe that I speak for the other readers when I say that there are not enough words to express my appreciation for your decision of sharing this hard-to-find novel with other La Mentira fans, whose dream of reading the original book has been let down by the absence of enough reprinted copies for their personal enjoyment.
Now, the reason that has made me write to you this message is that although I have read most of your fragments available (I am in chapter 21 right now), and it seems that there is no missing chapter or section from the posts, I was wondering if the original story posted in this forum is in its entirety. Last night, I read one message in which you replied to someone that the book has over a hundred pages and, according to what I understood, your online version does not count with the complete story, that there are missing pages.
Therefore, I implore you to clarify such doubts. Does the book online version you offer in Network 54.com contains the whole story or just most of it? Do you have an original book (or a newer edition) from which you took the text or did you type the novel from loose papers? If you have the book, can you please provide the appropriate bibliographic information, such as the complete title, the publishing house name, the publishing city name, and the year?
You see, I believe that it would be great for me to print your posts, retype the whole text in a new Spanish-edited Word version, and have it covered for my personal enjoyment, and would like the title page to contain information about the book's publication, even though it will not be a hard copy.
Your cooperation and prompt reply will be tremendously appreciated. Oh, and keep the good work!

El engaño: Estafa de amor es probablemente otra novela. El texto original de LA MENTIRA existe en una libreria en Washington, y se titula exactamente así: LA MENTIRA. El engaño... es otro libro por Caridad Bravo Adams, cuyo titulo en ingles es Deception: A Trick of Montezuma. No estoy completamente segura, pero he encontrado un CV de CBA, donde dicen que LA MENTIRA fue publicada por Editorial Diana en 1950, con el titulo EL AMOR NUNCA MUERE.
Yo tambien espero que te responden los chicos y chicas que nos ofrecieron esa obra deliciosa, para saber los datos exactos sobre el libro.

Igualmente, quiero agradecerte por tratar de contestar mis preguntas respecto a la fuente original de la obra literaria, que tal grupo publicó a través de este foro. Sin embargo, debo confesarte que tus respuestas, en lugar de aclarar mis dudas, sólo han conseguido confundirme más.
En tu carta, me explicaste que el título del libro que generó tan célebre telenovela no es "El Engaño: Estafa de Amor" ("Deception: A Trick from Montezuma"), sino que en realidad se titula "La Mentira", de acuerdo al listado de una librería en Washington. Luego, me dijiste que Editorial Diana publicó la versión literaria de "La Mentira" en 1950, bajo el título "El Amor Nunca Muere".
Así que, finalmente, ¿cuál es el verdadero título del libro que dió vida a "La Mentira"? ¿Es "La Mentira" o es "El Amor Nunca Muere"? desafortunadamente, no he encotrado el libro yo. Fue en un foro sobre La mentira -la telenovela- donde leí un mesaje escrito por una muchacha que decía que había encontrado el libro en Washington. Ella decía que había solamente un libro en la libreria, y no fue posible ni presrarlo, ni fotocopiarlo. Decía que el titulo era LA MENTIRA. donde puedes encontrar el CV de Caridad Bravo Adams. No me parece muy adecuado -especialmente en relación con las obras de la escritora- pero sigue conteniendo informaciones interesantes.

I am a great fan of latin telenovelas, especially "la mentira" with Guy Ecker and Kate del Castillo.
One of my dreams is to find and read the original book "la mentira" by Caridad Bravo Adams (in an english version),which is very difficult here in my country. You see, Greece is far away from Mexico!!
Do you know if it is possible for me to read the original book? Is there a way to buy it or obtain it in some other way?

You are expecting an answer from Selenne, but until she answers, maybe you are interested to learn that the original book of La Mentira is very rare and can be found in just a few places, like libraries in the US where you can only read it there and not borrow it. It is an old text, and the Editorial Diana publicarions are not planning to reprint it. They were about to when the series was airing, but not anymore. However, in my opinion, you can get a pretty good idea of the original from this site. I have managed to print the posts as a text, and the whole counts about 150 A4 pages - which is translated in about 300+ book pages. The original text of the printed book counts 302 pages. As you see, there must be very few things - if any - missing from the posts by the Book Lovers.

I am glad that my answer somehow helped you. Now as far as the text is concerned, this is what I did:
As you see in this message board, every message (except for some that are information, instructions or questions/suggestions) contains a part of the text. if you put them all together the one after the other (where page 17 is the first, 1 the last and in every page each new message is numbered after the last one), you will have a normal text. It took me some time to do it, but I was working on it bit by bit and it was pleasant because the text is very good. At first, I wasn't sure but since I had practically no way to get the original in my hands, this was the only solution. So I did it, printed the text and it was worth it!

It was a long journey up and down the Amazon River, but we finally arrived at the "happy ending" in Rio... thank you for coming with us!
"La pluma es lengua del alma" is a quotation from Cervantes classic work of Spanish literature, DON QUIXOTE, which is "engraved" outside one of our favorite libraries. We think it could also be applied to the writer of the romantic story that we just concluded sharing.
By some quirk of fate, that library, which had suffered devastating fires in the past (but each time has risen again like a phoenix from the ashes), was just this morning surrounded by fire engines--but luckily nothing serious happened!
Even before that, we had been remembering writer RAY BRADBURY (whom some of us "typists" have met in person). His description of how he wrote his famous book about loving and saving books, titled FAHRENHEIT 451, helped inspire the creation of this forum.
That book was translated many years ago in the "dark ages" of the 1950's into Spanish; but we don't know if some of the foreword and afterword he wrote years later have appeared in later edition. In one of those he says he only realized later that his unconscious mind had named his characters Professor Faber and the Fireman GUY Montag after companies that manufactured pencils and paper!
It might be possible that a certain family living in Brazil were influenced by his choice of names... it is a fact that Uruguayan artist JOSE GURVICH (an exhibit of whose works made recent tours in Brazil, Mexico, and the USA) was inspired by another of Ray Bradbury's books. By the way, a recuring theme of GURVICH is the supreme importance of loving couples in the cosmos... Who says romance is trivial? Not us!
So it seems like it is a small world, after all. Among the other quotations from Cervantes in famous reference book "BARTLETT's Quotations", are many that seem familiar to English speakers, reminiscent of joke about someone who didn't think Shakespeare was such a great writer, as his work was "full of cliches" (not realizing that it was "Willie" who had made those phrases and expressions so famous!)
It's very likely that the woman who penned this dramatic story also read another playwright (but wheither in English or Spanish translation, we don't know). For instance "Othello" has some simularities to the story of Veronica, Demetrio & Virginia (including an important handkerchief), but with the major diference of who is left standing at the end.
However, Shakespeare scholars say that ALL of his plays were inspired by old legends or history, with the exception of his final "farewell" play, THE TEMPEST. By the way, another classic science fiction novel, BRAVE NEW WORLD, quotes Miranda's remark in "The Tempest".
We are considering embarking on another story by the same author, but as it is even longer than this one, it is a decision not to be made lightly. At soonest, probably it wouldn't be able to be started until the fall. But there will be other things to look forward to, even if the forum doesn't rejoin. Like a story about a certain dancer with name out of the Bible!
Until then, we hope you will be inspired to read, explore, share and preserve beloved works of literature.
Maybe start with FAHRENHEIT 451 ("the temperature paper burns"), which mentions many other books that people commit to heart.
Another interesting thing: Bradbury suggestion for the cover artwork of one edition of his book for begetting booklovers, stemmed from his seeing a poster depicting of DON QUIXOTE. The 451 version shows a Quixote made of printed pages--one word or idea sure seems to lead to another, doesn't it?

Se ha dejado caer en el banco de marmol. Le frente abatida, baja hasta apoyarse en las manos y Veronica piensa que debe huir, que debe alejarse, pero no puede hacerlo. Es como si sus pies se hubieran vuelto de plomo, como si algo ajeno a su voluntad, moviera sus manos y sus palabras.

DEMETRIO: ! No... no!... Eres lo bastante mujer para saberlo, para estar segura... Mientes al decir que crees que no te he amado, demasiado sabes que te idolatre siempre. Nunca te negue mi amor desesperado. Es mas, si no te hubiera amado como te amaba, no me hubiera casado contigo!...
-- Que nuevo enga~no, que nueva farsa estas representando?...
--Yo mimso lo ignoraba; pero no fue por odio, fue por amor por lo que uni nuestros destinos, atandolos con lazo que solo la muerte pudiera romper...
