Jeannie and Larry Miller, Reed City, Michigan are
the proud new owners of their first Davenport!
Rubato CF recently moved from Cravers Farm in Illinois to Michigan. Jeannie (an endurance
rider) is already leading "Rowdy" down trails,
and crossing creeks, etc.
Knowing Larry and Jeannnie as I have for years,
we all should give them a hearty welcome to our
band of minstrels!
Their e-mail address, in case you'd like to correspond with them personally is
jcmiller@jackpine.com
Congradulations to the Miller's! "Rowdy" sounds like he is getting a good home.
And thanks to Linda and her family for getting those Davenports out in the public eye so that more people can see what the Davenports can do!
Thanks to Linda Sherrill's generosity ,a few of her friend's Jean Miller's stories and photos of
Rowdy, his new adventures and his new family are up for browsing. Jeanie has the storyteller's
gift. Enjoy.
For those of Davenport owners that ride endurance this is a good ride. I live at the base of the Big horn's. I have a couple of companion's. Minstral CF, Dressage, IBN Elhinny, not quite 2yrs,IBN J not 2 month's, and that leaves me with Jasmyn who is breed back to Minstral. IBN J's sire is Manderin CF. So I have no Davenport's to ride in the endurance ride Which is in August!! If you have a companion but could not ride let me know. If you come to the ride look us up!! Love to meet friend's of Davenport's
Bruce
PS. Will post the dates when I get them
My daughter Amy and her 1/2 Davenport Fakher El
Alamein (Valentino) did the Big Horn ride 2
years ago (all the way from Michigan). We still
show off photos from the ride on our livingroom
wall - the scenery around Shell, WY is SO
beautiful. I wish I had a couple Davenports
ready to go, but we lost Demitasse in November
and Artemisia CF isn't ready for a 50 (or 100
mile ride for that matter). She's plodding along
this year on 25 mile endurance rides instead.
HI . sorry to hear that. It is a wonderful place I hunted up there for years. We are around 25 mile's south of there. The headquarters is at Flitner Ranch in shell. Cindy Collins 90 Sunset Rim in Cody wyo 82414 is the ride secretary <cindyc@trib.com> there is a 50 miler also the same day if you know anyone interested? Bruce
The straight Davenport stallion, Kamil Antez (Kamil Ibn Salan X Cressida) is now
standing at stud in TX at Private Treaty. His owners are offering a free
breeding to SELECT Straight Davenport mares. If you'd like more information,
please contact me at:
Are there any? I have two mares, one is about 1/4 Davenport, the other about 1/8. I have looked at breeding one or the other back to a Davenport stallion, but I haven't seen any in the "neighborhood". I am particularly interested in breeding for endurance traits, so I was pleased to see the posts about Davenports and endurance riding. Tell me what you can....
How far inland are you talking about? We are in Dallas, Oregon - just 15 miles West of Salem & 1-5.
We (daughter Diane, her Dave, and Jim & I) have about 20 Davenports including the stallion, Mandarin - all currently at Diane's.
Why not come to the CMK & Al Khamsa Symposium in August (20 to 22) in Mc Minnville, OR. You can see other Davenports there too. Email me privately for more information.
On Sunday night May 16- 99 we got hit bay a very bad hail storm before we could get all the horses put up. It is with a very very sad heart that I tell you that my beloved Sir Gem LD was lost to us ni that storm.
Though the kindness of her heart Carol Lyons sold me Gem at 6 mos. old in 1986 and Gem has been with me the whole time. I did not breed him to all the Davenport mares I should have and wanted to as I though I had time to do it. I though we would grow old together.
Here is a poem for Gem to help say good by.
"His nostrils will flair, breathing the choice,
and his eyes will glint the ancient knowing.
and, as tail shoots skyward, my horse will gallop into the clouds, from
where he began."
by Jim Oakley
Good by Gem I hope to meet up with you someday.
Marie
Meaning NO disrespect to this board or the generosity that brought it to be formed, I have started up a listserver over at onelist.com, this one specifically for Davenports (as opposed to the Al K. list some of you may already be on.)
I set the list up as it brings news, discussions, foal announcements and the like directly into your email box immediately (or in digest form, if you prefer.) An archieve is also available to the public, for future reference, and onelist.com also provides each list with public File space, in case someone wants to put up pictures of a horse, pedigree, etc.
I hope all of you will subscribe to this list, even if discussions do not occur, so that information can be spread quickly, should the need arise. The listserver can also accomodate questions and answers, discussions about intended breedings, calendar announcements, etc. Aside from it being devoted to Davenports, it is my hope that this list will be an extension of the community Davenport folks already share, a tool, if you will, as the internet makes our lives easier and reduces phone bills.:)
If one or two of you would be willing to be Moderators, I'd appreciate the help. This shouldn't have any significant duties, as I'm not interested in censorship and all members' postings will be going out to everyone immediately/automatically, unread by the moderators. The only real responsibility in this would be if someone should join the list who's just there to spam us, in which case the Moderator would go to the onelist page and Ban that user, so we don't get any more junk mail out of the proposition.:)
Again, my thanks to all of you wonderful folks who've been so warm and welcoming as I enter the Davenport gang. I hope to see you on the new listserver, and to meet those of you I've not yet had the chance to encounter!
ONElist has created a URL that people can use to join the DavenportArabs list. The URL is:
http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/DavenportArabs
If you're already Registered with onelist, subscribing is pretty much painless. If you're not, Registering is still a relatively simple task, but they have the obligatory demographics questions.
Looking for Davenport stallion ,will provide pomotion of said stallion, insurance. Also loving care in family operation. Stallion is needed to compliment my stallion who traces in both the tail male & tail female lines to the great mare Wadduda but ,is not Al kamsa.

Artemisia CF completed her first endurance ride
on Sunday, May 16th! She placed 3rd out of 11
horses (best condition judging). We are naturally
very proud of her ability to pick up where
our beloved Demitasse CF left off.
Valentino (Fakher El Alamein) is no slouch either.
He and Amy won the junior division Sunday in the
same endurance ride.
Davenport related KOVER SONG named Unanimous 1998 East Coast Champion Stallion.
by
Hello. I thought it nice that a stallion with so much history in his pedigree, mainly thanks to his dam- was recognized and chosen unanimous for such a title.
Kover Song has four lines to Bint Sahara, 9 to Ferda and 10 to Wadduda. His introductory stud fee is $1,600.00, with a 15% discount to Crabbet, CMK or Davenport or Davenport realted horses.
His dam Gai Chanson is a lovely, lovely Gai Parada daughter and is quadruple inbred Bint Sahara and double Ferzon.
She is available for sale or in-house breeding lease now.
Visit us & Arabnet Arabian Magazine, but watch out Netscapers- not all java enabled pages are compatible.
Tracy Tromp (ttromp@gps.caltech.edu) is doing an
article on Al Khamsa endurance horses. Please
e-mail her if you have any information on
Davenports who are currently participating in
endurance riding. I'd love to see us better
represented, because I know of many part
Davenports out there who are competing.
We currently have 3 ourselves:
Prelude CF
Artemisia CF
Valentino (Fakher El Alamein)
Demitasse CF (deceased 11-98)
I have a part Davenport and we are doing Competitive Trail. We are in our second year and haven't got alot of miles under our belts yet. Asadd's Aristocrat is his name.
Ascendant, a trained, aged, straight Davenport stallion bred by Charles Craver and sire of Carol Lyon's reining Davenport stallion, SA Apogee, is available. He needs more personal attention than his current owner (located near Springfield Ill.) is able to give him. He is not doing well running next to open mares. His price is negotiable to the right home..
Please contact Colleen Koch (a friend of his owner) at kevs@fgi.net. She will be able to give you more details and put you in contact with his owner.
Again THANKS Mark,Janet Carol,Charles,Fred Jasmyn doing fine. Can hardly wait about 45 DAYS 10 HRS+30 sec. Will email you when I get your emailadress mine is mcelhinny@tctwest.net
Hey Linda! I found your web site. Josh is giving me lessons on e mail style! Don't forget the trip to Craver's in April!
Maggie's Mom
PS erase this when you find it!
Just found out that the remnants of Joyce (Gregorian) Hampshire's herd are for sale in Massachusetts. There are several nice horses to be had here. Please be aware that not all of them are registered, although they are eligible.
For details, contact me.
I was just browsing through some photos of Davenport horses and came face to face with what I thought was myself riding one!! I showed it to my co-workers and they all agreed it could be me. Can anyone tell me the identity of the woman riding Pericles at this address:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/3544/Davenport4.htm ??
We could be twins that were separated at birth!! :+)
Congratulations to Amy Sherrill and the 1/2
Davenport gelding Fakher El Alamein (Valentino)
Amy attended the Arabian Horse Distance Riding Assn (IAHA) and the Upper Midwest Endurance and Competitive Ride Ass'n Annual Awards in Wisconsin over the weekend and picked up the following:
AHDRA ( Top 5 Jr Competitive Trail)
UMECRA (Top 10 Jr Competitive Trail)
Valentino got a beautiful Top 10 blanket and Amy
got a Top 5 embroidered vest for their efforts!
Valentino was not immediately impressed with the
blanket or the vest!!
Although not new to Arabians in general, I am new to Davenports and am having difficulties locating pedigrees of the more prominent horses and lines that are in current use. I would appreciate any information, including strains. Thanx!
You might get a copy of 'The Annotated Quest'. As the title implies this is the annotated (and updated) version of Homer Davenport's "My Quest for the Arabian Horse". There is a pedigree index in the back of the book that is complete through about 1991.
Although this leaves all the younger horses out, it is a resource that is a MUST, and the promenent horses now in use are listed.!
"But after all you have not come here to see men. Better than that you have come to see horses, and I would be selfish if I kept you longer from seeing the greatest mare of our country -- the war mare of the Great Hashem Bey -- the mare from whose back he killed, among others, his most distinguished enemy." ... "Her name they told me was 'Wadduda,'meaning love; that she was a Seglawie Al Abed, seven years old and had been the favorite war mare of Hashem Bey for four years." (from The Annotated Quest pp 83 & 84)
As a result I have been looking for Wadduda info.I thought you ight enjoy this link. You can visit the< a href="http://www.arabnetmag.com/wadduda"> Rose Publishing page on Wadduda and learn about the new book on her. Also, you can order a free color print of her from the publisher Reginia- the print is really pretty.
I love mine!
Best wishes.
Was in Ariz untl four years ago and wewere the last one there I beleive but Carol Lyons could possible know of so others. But way are you the Michele that post of the CD-L?
Hello Michele and all you other Davenport Devotees, those I have met and otherwise! Michele, there are several Davenport breeders in Southern California. If you would like info. re. them you may contact me by e-mail.

Amy showed me your web page...how exciting!
Your love of horses shines through every morsel of info and picture.
I'll check back for updates.
After a quick perusal, I couldn't find your e-address, so I decided to use the message board.
Happy Holidays!
mjp
For all of you who have Davenports you will
appreciate this message. We recently broke ground
for a new 40' x 80' barn for our beloved
horses. (We don't spoil them). Anyway, Artemisia
CF and Prelude CF, not to be outdone by Fakher El
ALamein (Valentino) all had to climb to the top
of the dirt pile left by the excavators. (Much
like a scene recently at Cravers, where the fillies were playing King of the Hill) anyway,
what are we to do with these KIDS???
Just a happy post following such a devastating
month in which we lost our beloved Demitasse CF
We are sponsoring an annual award during the
Great Lakes Distance Riding Assn banquet in Feb.
honoring Demitasse. We will award a silver cup
to the horse and/or rider in their first full
year of competition (like she was) who best
epitomizes the true spirit of distance riding--
a good horse going down beautiful trails and
HAVING FUN! We have already picked the 1998
recipient and are looking forward to presenting
this award in February and keeping Demi's memory
alive. She truly loved the trails!
Linda
Linda this is a wonderful idea! What a sweet way for you to remember your beloved Demi proudly, and at the same time encourage new riders and new horses in one of the world's best sports! (Hey any sport that has a horse and rider haveing fun together has to be one of the best right?)
By the way what is the name for this new award that you are giving out?
We have two CMK colts fore sale, both are 3/4 + Davenport in blood, They are:
Hi Raja SH,(CL Hi Ned X Gems Cameo SH (sire Sir Gem LD),4/19/96,Chestnut, He is a good moing colt and would make a riding horse. He has a tempermrnt and is good with kids. Should get about 14.3h. Has enough white to work well in an Arab/Pinto breeding program.
Tyson SH,(DDA Tyreb CF X Gems Cameo SH),7/8/98,Grey. This colt is bred one gen. Keheilan Haifi and boy does he look it. Right now he looks like a young Javera Thadrian.
MW Sugar Magnolia (pending), bay (going grey), foaled July 1, 1998.
Sire: Brigade CF, straight Davenport Saqlawi al Abd.
Dam: ML Kaystyna, gneral list mare, tail female *Urfah.
"Maggie" is an outgoing, friendly, gorgeous filly.
email for photo, details.
I am sad to report that we lost Demitasse CF on
Tuesday morning due to a freak storm/accident.
We lost the roof to our 12 x 20 horse shed in a
blinding storm and it scared her - she ran into
a post (probably never saw it, because I couldn't
see 2 feet in front of me) and broke her shoulder.
She hopped with me out of the pasture into the
breezeway and I had to do the humane thing at that
point and let her sleep. I can't believe she's
gone. She looked me straight in the eye the whole
time she was hopping, and I just kept telling her
what a war mare she was, and my vet was in tears.
He said he had never seen a horse do that for
anyone. I said"stick around , these guys do this
stuff every day"! Anyway, just wanted to let
my wonderful Davenport community know, since I
knew you would all understand.
Linda Sherrill
....dedicated to one less Davenport.....
I just had time to play catch-up on the Davenport Board, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I know how close you and Demitasse were. She will be greatly missed by all the Davenport community.
Congratulations to Judith Franklin - proud new
"Mom" to Sabrina CF. Sabrina was brought back
to Michigan over this past weekend. Both "Mom"
and Sabrina are so excited about this new
adventure! Best of luck to you both!
This wonderful 1/2 Davenport gelding was taken
from the show ring to the distance trails by our
then 11 year old daughter, Amy.
Amy and her wonderful gelding have overcome his
old bowed tendon (before he was ours) and have
now accumulated over 500 miles together on trails.
Valentino, as he is called, placed 2nd in the
Great Lakes Distance RIding Assn this year, as well as top ten in the IAHA Arabian Horse Distance
Riding Association and the Upper Midwest Endurance
and COmpetitive Ride Assn. Great Job, Amy. Dad
and I are so proud of you. This team has also
travelled with friends and done the Big Horn
(Wyoming) endurance ride taking care of each other
for 50 tough Big Horn Mountain miles. Davenports take care of their owners, too!
Please help me welcome Pam & Joey Barnette, of Ja-paa Arabians of Myrtle Beach, SC swirnvin@sccoast.net They have acquired three part Davenport mares, Atah Saqlawiyah (Atif Al Dahman x Maemie), a 1980 cm, who in 1998 produced her FIRST foal, a filly, by Kahream ( Moss Hill Karim x Sierra Sady) and is bred back to the "Sharps" Davenport stallion, Salil Ibn Ilaid; Saafadda CHF ( Fiddlesticks x Sugar Hill Sassy) who produced a '98 grey colt by Ibn Serr Echo ( Serr Echo x Masada Bellesabah), bred to Salil for '99; and MSF Rubie, (EA Salute x LD Rubic), a rare "Sharps" tracing to the rare line of *Nufoud, and is bred for '99 to her 1/2 brother, Salil Ibn Iliad (Iliad x LD Rubic). They leased the stallion, Salil Ibn Iliad, and fell in love and did not want him to return home, so they are in the process of purchasing him, in addition to purchasing the '97 rose grey colt, MSF Rais (Salil Ibn Iliad x Hart Asheera (Rafeer x Nisrs Asha) . Rais was almost destined to have been bred to Atah after we put the pedigrees together, although we did not know it at the time. Please encourage and wish them luck. Thanks
Les Detweiler
Welcome to the Davenport community.
Even though your horses are part Davenport, they are members of some other wonderful bloodlines too.
Though I personally like to THINK what you love about your horses came from thier Davenport Heritage, I KNOW better. I have seen and met some of the other wonderful lines that are in your horses.
Again Congradulations on you being owned by "Sharp" and part Davenport horses. And keep us updated on your breeding and your horses successes.
Welcome Pat & Joey to the wonderful world of part Davenports Arabians! And a special helo to your 'sharps' (For those of you who dont know what a 'sharp' Arabian is - it is one that does not trace to aby of the Blunt desertbreds.... just a play on words but they represent a viable breeding group.
Pat and Joey, I feel especially close to your horses because I am the one who finally got old tarrla at age 18 and in foal to a Raffles bred stallion. At 18 she had not had an Al Khamsa replacement daughter and she was the very last of the *Nufoud tail female line.
At any rate, Tarla produced the grand filly, LD Rubic and now there are about 7 tail female *Nufouds within Al Khamsa.
Please give each of these horses a special pat for me.
Hi everybody! I need to brag on my colt, born May 11. Silver Sonota(Riposte CF x Rababe CF). There are pictures of him at my web site. Also there are a couple of new quadrille pictures from the 1998 Yes Sir! celebration.
JV Shams Aliha is a beautiful 2 year old Straight Davenport chestnut filly by the solid black Sportin Life. Her dam is JV Miss Mischief (Sportin Life x GH Moonstone). Moonstone is also black, so this filly could very well be a black producer. Aliha is very correct, has a long fine neck, short back, level croup and moves like a dream...has a huge powerfull trot! I am interested in possibly trading her for a Straight Davenport filly or mare of comparable quality. If not, she is for sale. We accept terms on approved credit, as well as Visa, M/C and Discover Card. Call us at 541-895-2077 or e-mail.
BLACK Davenport/Egyptian Sportin Life son for sale
by
Javera Dante is a 3 year old black colt by the solid black Sportin Life. His dam is the gorgeous black bay mare, JAL Maarathena. Dante is beautiful, smart and full of himself. Being 3/4 Davenport, he qualifies as CMK. I was going to keep him for myself because I like him so well, but I just don't have the time to give him the handling he deserves and needs right now. We are asking $5,000.00 and accept terms on approved credit as well as Visa, M/C and Discover Card. Call or e-mail. Our telephone number is 541-895-2077.
Hi Janet,
Long time no see or hear from! And Merry Christmas! Of course, I am always interested in the horses. I still have the pictures of Sport and JAL Maarathena, my two favorites from my 1993 trip through Oregon. So of course I continue to be interested in Dante. I guess I will always try to keep track of those favorites. How is he doing now? Was he sold? And how is Sport? Is the mare in a good home? And last but not least how are you? Our horses are fine. Cricket will be 20 and RHA Kho-Starr will be 11. I more or less rescued a mule (yep that's right) with a friend. She is doing very well with a trainer. No injuries, no mishaps, and she's happy. His name is John Bishop. He is a good, humane trainer. They say if a mule likes you - you've got it made. Well, I'm writing from work, if I want to be off til after New Year's I'd better get going. Hope to hear from you. You don't have a Web Page?
The Davenport war mare, Wadduda, comes to life in this fact-based novel. Take a trip to the Bedouin tents of the 1890's and experience the early years of this famous mare.

From: Chapter 5 - Ghazu: the Raid.
Twilight deepened on the second night as they approached the cliffs and canyons. They passed through a jumble of great rocks and followed a path that alternately narrowed and widened. Ahead, the canyon walls squeezed to a steep-sided cleft, and everyone was forced to ride single file. They seemed to disappear, as the tight darkness engulfed the camels ahead of Saied and Wadduda.
Fear prickled the hair on the back of Saied's neck, and as she moved behind his camel, he called silently to Allah to protect Wadduda from evil spirits. He stared into the shadows and wished he had a rock to cast at ghosts who might lurk there. His camel nosed into the dark canyon, following the rump ahead of him. Saied heard an echo of shouting and the clash of lances reverberating in the canyon. Behind him hoof beats thundered, and he turned in the saddle to see the distant shapes of Shamar warriors approaching.
His stomach dropped to his toes, and his heart rose in his throat. They'd been found out. It was a trap. He knew not how many warriors blocked the head of the canyon, but the sounds of battle crashed against the narrow walls. With the riders closing in from behind, the Anazah would be crushed.
Marybelle and her Davenport cross gelding
did a fine job completing and placing third this
past weekend on the 100 mile endurance ride at
White River Labor Day ride in Michigan.
Marybelle has mentioned that this horse might
be for sale. I get first dibs! Just another
feather in the Davenport breeding cap!
Demitasse CF an 8 year old gray mare purchased
from Craver Farms (Javera Thadrian x Dixie Cup)
won the White River Distance Rides 1998 Series
High Point Jacket this past weekend in Michigan.
Demitasse CF was the high point arabian competing
during the distance riding series (May - Sept)
in the White River Rides Series, 25 mile
competitive trail category. She also won best
arabian on Sunday 9/6 and high point overall the
same day. Marybelle Cooper and her Davenport cross gelding completed the 100 mile endurance
ride in fine shape and lended yet more credence
to the fact that these Davenports are wonderful
trail horses! And they win!
Congratulations for a job well done. I can picture Demitasse CF in my mind's eye, on that cross country trail. She probably didn't even work up a sweat.
I was given my father's horse two years ago. We just started doing Competive Trail! My arabian is a dark bay, 15.1hh with a star. He's 16 yrs. old and still has alot of get up and go in him! We have 2 competition in Oct.. His sire is *ASADD and his dame is Linda Bint Allany and I belive that his dame's line is the Davenport? I would love any information on his dame line. I already know alot about his sire's line. The only information I have is on Hallany Mistanny, which my horse is 25% of on the dame line.
Thank you,
Kim & Asadd

He sounds like a wonderful horse. Linda Sherrill's daughter is also riding a Egyptian/Davenport cross in Competative Trail riding. You may enjoy looking at her web site
Asadd's dam line does go back to the Davenport mare *Urfah. She is the dam line of All of today's Davenport Seglawi horses and appears in all of the straight Davenport pedigrees. You may enjoy her story at:
Please stop in again sometime and let us know how you and Asadd are doing.
In the meantime, here is a little information on his dam
Linda Bint Allany is 50% Hallany Mistany(a Brown Egyptian) as both her sire and dam are by him. Allany's sire is out of RODANNA, a CMK mare by the Crabbet-bred (and Kellogg imported)
stallion *FERDIN and out of the (Crabbet-bred and Kellogg imported) *Raseyn daughter RAFA. Rafa's dam was the mare Amaana (Jadaan<Davenport> x Amham)
Amham was by the Davenport stallion, *Hamrah, and out of Dahura(by *El Bulad, another Davenport stallion, and out of Nanshan, (*Garaveen X
*Nejdme)
Allany is out of SWEET HALLANY, a Hallany Mistany daughter of NISANA's.
Nisana a 'CMK' mare, is by CARAVAN (Carol Lyons mentions Caravan at
