It had been a constant fight between Danielle and her mother lately. You could never tell what was the relationship between them. It was hard to know her mother that was barely around always working and avoiding but then again it that could have been equally applied to Danielle who balanced school, friends, work and a boyfriend.
This afternoon Danielle had woken up late from her alarm clock not working like it should. She hit the clock once it sounded it off. It was 8:15, she must have hit the snooze button too many times perhaps she too much of in a deep sleep to notice it sounding off while she dreamt. She took a quick bath and dressed. Dashing out the door before she could collect her English paper that was left on her desk in her room. She got to her class and stopped taking in notice she had left it. She had forced herself to try to excuse herself with the teacher but it was useless. The teacher decided to take away 20 points from giving in a tardy paper. Danielle forced herself to sit down and accept it. She was angry from the result of it and then had to skip lunch today, to see if she could find the information she needed for her chemistry class but the computer printer jammed. She had felt horrible by then, settled with anger and being upset she had did nothing but sit in the back of the seats of the rest of her 3 classes not really paying attention. She didn’t take in notice of Maria or Mel trying to pass of notes to her.
She went home after practice, she got there tired and unwilling to go to work she stumbled upon her mother who was home from work early. Strangeness it was. She was use being home alone all the time that the present of her mother was like of some stranger roaming around unannounced. Danielle walked in to the kitchen to find her mother sitting in the kitchen with all her college acceptances on the floor. Ringling, Seattle, Washington, all those colleges and universities she had applied without much consent from her mother. The thick envelopes meant she got in. Danielle watched her mother closely as if she didn’t know what to expect from her mother. As well as she knew to be truthful. Before things could be clear she sat down across from her.
First the slash of words on how dare she didn’t do it without her mother’s consent and how did she expect to pay for such pricey schools. The frustration shattered between them yelling. Danielle wanted to walk away but her mother yelled out at her. “Running away from your problems isn’t going to help Danielle! If you do you’re just like your father.” Her mother yelled with a shattering scream. “You don’t know who I am!” she yelled back accusing her own mother of.
“You never cared to bother to listen to me. Always too busy with work and everything else and to you I am just a shadow!” she said looking at her in the eyes. The tears stinging in her eyes. Her mother yelled back. “You don’t know me neither! This house is crashing over my head, over our heads and you do nothing!”
“I do nothing?! I work I study. I try to make you proud of me. But it’s never enough for you is it?! And if you have problems, me about them! Tell me! You never talk to me! You avoid me as if I was burden to you!”
Her mother stared into her eyes and didn’t answer. “I have to go back to work.” She responded. The woman with Asian eyes walked out and left Danielle standing there. Her jaw tensing up, while the tears came down with anger all over her. She stood there still the tears coming out she wiped them off. She didn’t know what to feel, anger or sadness.
