ignorance is bliss

by Pamela Pearson (Age 27)

-Pam sat behind a desk, in a small room in her home that she'd converted to an office, of sorts. There was a desk with a top of the line computer sitting on it, a fax machine and printer on the table behind her, and a couple of small file cabinets against the walls.. There were a lot of well-tended plants scattered around the room, and framed pictures on the walls. Some of the pictures were personal snapshots, others were professional shots of her on set, or on stage, performing.-

-Scattered on top of the desk were some papers she was struggling to get in order, contracts, endorsement agreements, etcetera. She yawned.. It was early, nearly 9 AM. She'd spent the night before at Reece's home outside of the city, since she hadn't felt well enough to drive. She'd woken at six, while he was still sleeping. She left him a note thanking him for his taking care of her the night before. The note also said that she'd left early, because she had to get home since she had things to do today. She'd then gathered up her things and left his house for home.-

-When she did get in, she checked her messages, put away her purchases from the day before, and made herself some tea. Right now, the tea and the toast she'd eaten with it were managing to stay down, though she felt a little queasy. She sighed and realized she might have to make an appointment to see her physician.. Clearing away the now complete paperwork, and looking at the huge calendar that took up her desktop, she saw that it couldn't be today.. At 2 PM she had to meet with her agent, and she'd have to also try and struggle through a business dinner with the director of her next film. She sighed and reached for the telephone, scheduling an appointment for 11 AM tomorrow with her doctor.-

-She pencilled in the doctor reminder note on her calendar, which was pretty full, she noted ruefully.. "Won't have much time to myself over the next couple of weeks..", she thought, doodling on the margins of the paper. She breezed past the calendar of the last few days, making sure she hadn't forgotten to do anything important.. She frowned as she noted a small red check mark noted 3 days previous and realized that she was to have gotten her period that day, but she hadn't. She bit her lip and in a matter of a few seconds, shrugged it off as nothing. Her life had been pretty crazy the past couple of weeks, full of stress and anxiety, and her running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. A late period happened sometimes when she was under stress.. It would be like, her period would be late, and then she'd worry about it a little, but her worry wouldn't be over what most people worry about when their period is late.. Basically, it's not like she'd be worrying because she was afraid she was pregnant, as she'd been pretty much sex free the past few years.. She was more worried about upsetting her bodies schedule, since sometimes she framed her time at work around that. -

-Yawning, she stood up and walked away from the desk turning everything off but the fax machine. It was early.. The plan now was to go take a nap for a few hours, before she had to meet Jacq at two. Nothing better than a little nap when the sun was shining.-
