American Literature

by Mr. Straka

New this year to the staff, the young teacher sat at his desk and was glad to be getting through the first few weeks of school. American Literature was what he taught and to the upperclassmen, he offered a study on Shakespeare for a class period out of the day.

Having been a graduate from several years back, he'd gone to school and studied hard. He did his time as a student teacher, taught at another school for a few years, then decided to repay his teachers by coming to work beside the ones that weren't retired yet.

It was morning now. He drew in a deep breath, already having decided where to lead his classes today. A ring of the bell resonated in his ears and he found himself rising to his feet. He smoothed a hand down the front of his shirt and proceeded to the door of his classroom. Then, Mr. Straka stood out in the corridor along with many of the other teachers in the English hall, waiting for his students to arrive and monitoring for any monkey business as well . . .
