happy.

by Sarah Lamb-Northey

Sarah was brushing her fingers through her hair, brushing her bands back but they fell back to her forehead. Wearing a band t-shirt and jeans that rested on her hips. Standing in front of the microphone stand, the musicians scattered all about the large recording room. Strangely enough for some so was little Mike Northey who was just barely 2 years old sitting there playing with a toy set of music instruments. The wide brown eyed little boy looked around as if waiting as the rest of the instruments to play.

Sarah cornered her eyes to see someone holding up a camera. They had been video recording their recording sessions for the first video and the dvd they wanted to put with the album, a limited time offer deal for the fans. The recording started with the sounds with the musicians asking in they were ready.

"Okay... one, two, three, four."

The sound of a raspy acoustic guitar was playing at first while, Mikey was playing along, although no sound was coming out of it while Sarah stepped back singing, a natural echoing coming through. Sarah's voice was still smooth with that clear melody but had a sense of maturity compared to before.

"I'll vessel myself back to the sea
It'll just be me.
I'll place these tears way and not let anyone hear of them anymore."

It started and then the rest of the instruments playing through, stepping back closer to the microphone. The guitars and bass playing, in the background was the sound of violins playing.

"I'll place you away from me,
stay at the shore and I'll watch you
getting smaller into the distance
until you're a spec and you fly away."

The music faded as she sang again, in mid chorus of the song a voice of a little girl sang along with her.

"I'm going to the sea,
It'll just be me.

I'll drink warm tea and read my future in the leaves
Until the waves devour me whole.

I will look out and see the blue deeps
and the eyes of the underwater mammals
looking right back at me and listen as they sing
sad songs for me."

The one child, started the chorus for her and Mikey had gotten up, walking towards his mother. Sarah picked him up, resting him on her hips, singing softly with the chorus.

"I am going to the sea-
I am going to the sea, it'll just be me.

And on the ground of the ocean
I will let the fish eat pieces of my heart to relieve it from the weight it contains
I will find a new shore,
one where you will never go
Lay on the sand, let the sun
burn me into ashes.

So I will become part of the sea

I am going to the sea
It'll just be me."

The children whistled to the melody as it slowly died out and the song ended. Mike clapped his hands, giggling as children of his age do. She swayed him gently in her arms, humming to him.

This was going to be Sarah's first solo album. Doing live recordings was interesting somehow. First time also producing. She looked at the camera and wave and so did her son. Smiling, Sarah was happy. A happy wife, a happy musician, a happy mother. She was for once, completely happy.
