Female Candidate for Wewak Open

September 11 2001 at 1:39 PM

I was very excited to read there is a female challenging the seat for Wewak Open.I know Bernard Narakobi has done a good job but a woman can always do a better one than a man so good luck to her and let's hear about others too!Women need the support of other women as we are better at fiscal management, time management and have more heart for other people than men do.We have also never had our strengths recognised

Hopefully more

I hope this will also happen in many of the open and regional seats for next year. Women are poorly represented right now by the male MPs.

Don't know her maiden name. She is a niece of Somare(strangely I have noticed that every East Sepik person is a distant or close relative of Somare)-she has come up through a pretty tough road(she told me her life story) and she has been married to two white men and two PNG's.Husband before this was Tony Ase from Siassi. Was married to an American and a Canadian....not really a good track record but that possibly also means she has learnt a lot

Whats she got to offer to wewak

Not o good track record off course. The Sepiks deserve better, because if you really look at the place (I have been to Wewak since my school days in 1980) the infrastructure is gone, there is absolutedly nothing except for the beautiful seafront and long white sandy beaches.
I am preety uptight about the current leadership except to say that Arthur is doing preety well in the Wara area, and I would like to see him returned. As for our elder statesman, he has served PNG with distinction, and in the process left poor old ESP to survive. Time to bring in others who have the heart for the province and Laura Martin would be the best choice if there wads any one more committed.

Liz Wama - tough road

December 7 2001, 12:27 AM

Seems like most women intending to stand for national election, or playing politics, are those that never had stable family. What guranty is there that they will handle the national affair better when they could not do the same at their household?

I Hope they don't add more problems to the wives of the male politicians.

Too True. I might add on to your statement, encouraging others to follow them and staistics will show that they all have failed to see through their marriage life because of infidelity. POWER GLORY AND DOMINANCE.

Yeh, things haven't been changed in Wewak for a long time. Maybe a lady this time might cause some action!

I am so sorry that you feel you should judge the women who are already in politics, and the ones who are Intending candidates as being perhaps not so worthy as they have unstable family backgrounds.I happen to know that Lady Kidu had a very happy marriage even though it was a cross-cultural one and she seems to have raised fairly normal kids-what more?Liz Wama may be a better person because of the hardship and hard times she may have faced.I know for sure that I am and I am going out there to test my election chances, much more understanding the hardship faced by PNG women after I spent 14 years married to a National man.

Good luck to you and I know for certain that a place like Wau should be treated with some respect. I understand that the present member has not given enough to the people of Wau/Bulolo, and there is a lot of delayed and frustrated efforts by the government to delay payments to the Landowners of wau/bulolo. At least form the hinterlands of Wau/Bulolo, a change is needed. I have been helping the Mangi people with their compensation and I am not too heavy in the manner in which the state has treated this people. Unfortunate for them I have to go abroad for studies and I just don't know the progress in their case. I wish you all the best and good luck, and if there is anything I d like you to do, please make the Government pay the people their rightful compensation.

Point taken and thank you,Crocodile.I have a Sepik guy working for me who has also taken an interest in the people from Mangi Village so if you need an update upon the progress of this case it shouldn't be too hard for you to find out who I am and my email so that I can tell you.Anyway, thank you for whatever you have done for them,so far.

I asked the Sepik guy who works with me about you and he said he was the one who introduced you to those Mangi people so you know who he is.I wish more people would use this Women's Forum as it is hard to think up postings to kep it going and it is very worthwhile.Maybe not a lot of women have access to the Internet...or the time.
