BRILLIANT SEPANDA

What a brilliant page you have created, this is exactly what we as PNGean women need!! A forum in which we can stand together and support each other. Too long have the men had all the room to maus wara, nau em taim blo yumi. I truely believe only a woman PM can lead PNG back to health and in an environment like this we can begin to really see some of the potential that we have always known we had, but just couldn't see through the cloud of testosterone!

Will PNG men let PNG women vote the way they want?

February 22 2000, 1:41 PM

I agree with you about a woman PM. That is something I've been talking to people about. If women did run for elections in 2002 would the women support that person or would the men force the women to vote for a male candidate?

Askim tasol,

PNG men are pompous and egotistical!

February 22 2000, 2:34 PM

PNG is full of pompous, egotistical, high testeroned men who only care for the most part to advance their pockets to impress each other with who has the biggest toys and the most girlfirends. That is my opinion. That is one of my impressions that fill up maybe 65% of the men in PNG. On the other hand there are other men who genuinely care for their families, sisters, mothers, daughters etc but get very little support or direction in trully doing anything of benefit to women because for the most part they lack the knowledge to go about getting support and then actually aquiring the tools to do anything about it. It's a frustrating situation because men do like it or not dominate New Guinea and that is why we have the problems we have.

Even the supposedly educated men from PNG if you'll notice and this is so typical, that when they receive a little more education than the average person then all of a sudden they are the quote"experts". Have you ever noticed all the fighting and name calling among men on the other forums? It's hilarious. They spend so much time and emotions arguing and name calling that they miss the point altogether. They become instead the very thing they hate the most which is exactly what they spend most time complaing about the way the country should be run or what developments should take place and yet they participate in exactly the same way as probably the current leaders do behind closed doors.

Nothing is going to change in PNG unless someone does something different! It's that simple...

If you do the same thing everyday, you'll end up with the same results. To finally respond to your comment, I think "some" women would be forced to vote by the men but I think an even greater percentage of women would vote themselves without biasness if given the right circumstance.

Take it easy untill next time.

Vickie.

So it is in your view that this is what PNG men are !!!, that is fine but it is a bit biased in the sense that you have not taken are general overview of both males and females of this country. Your statement can be true for a poor woman who may have little education or who is in a rural area. But your statement does not coincide with women who have pertained a certain level in education and are in urban areas like in Port Moresby. It is a common trend in women to be also concentric and egoistic in their ferminist attitude. To give you an example, there are several university graduates , women of course, who have broken up their marriges with their husband because of the way they feel in the families state of affairs. If you want PNG to change, go back to our customery laws and change them. Like wise change the way way we have been living since our ancient days. If one cannot do that, then it is better to qiut your ferminist ideas and work alongside a changed male population (the way you like it) and for sure PNG is going to change.........also bear in mind that actions speak louder than words.

susa, mi ting yumi ken winim ol man but what it must really come down to is them giving us a chance at the job, us being united enough to give it our best(as,i am sure we all know, men thrive and depend on the divisiveness of women)and finally both sexes and all ethnic groups working together for the betterment of our beautiful and precious nation. We as women should work to make sure 2002 is ours and if not then most certainly at the following elections.

We need to seek out good women who can run for elections and then we need to support those women. If any of the other women out there know of which one of our sisters will be running in 2002 please let everyone know.

If we have more women like susa and yanpla out there...surely we can claim victory when 2002 election come. For donkey years, women of PNG have never been united. We have been our own enemies. It's no wonder, we have very little representation at the political level today and i wonder how long more it will take.

We have very good women out there who can advocate for us in the likes of Enny Moaitz, Paula Mek to name a few. The women of PNG must begin to strategise now in order to get into the 2002 election. We must also acknowledge the support we have received from our male population. Judging from the 1997 election, many political parties will take on women candidates in 2002. We've witnessed many developments in the political parties such as having Womens Wings, eg within PPP. This is an evidence that at least women are begining to gain prominence in the public sphere.

For those interested in knowing who the intending women candidates are, contact WIP (Women In Politics), majority of women who align themselves to WIP are independents with no political party affiliates.
