You are on to something and in fact your are right. As the cave symbolizes many things, as it questions many truths, so does it acquaint to many different answers.
Faith is what the returning prisoner must get the other prisoners to believe in. They refuse to listen to his accounts, they call him a liar. He can not physically show them the light because they are not willing to believe him. How does he convince them then that it exits?
And remember my friend the answer to the question may just be within the very question itself.
